Despite some stark similarities, the plant-based sector has come on leaps and bounds in terms of technological innovation. Consumers still value convenience, reaching for cupboard staples like legumes and proteinous pulses to swap the aubergine in their caponata - They still want oven-ready meals that don't skimp on quality or flavour. However, consistent complaints among plant-based diets of texture and transparency have prompted huge strides in specific progress. Precision fermentation has given us 'whole cuts' of plant-based 'meat' 'eggs' that are indistinguishable from the real thing and even 2D-printed milk & 3D-printed salmon. The fruits are considered superfood, as they are packed with monounsaturated fats, folate and vitamins, especially B6, C, E and K. 🥑🥑🥑 Additionally, they are loaded with essential nutrients, such as potassium, magnesium, iron or copper. But avocados can also be contaminated with toxic heavy metals, especially lead and cadmium, whiih results from the intake of the soil where they are cultivated. Food for thought 🫓🥬🥑 How much of the world has access to a healthy diet? According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations, 35.4% of the global population, equal to 2.826 billion people, lacks access to a regularly healthy diet. In many avocado-producing countries, it’s possible that increasing domestic consumption of our favourite superfruit can play a part in securing a balanced, nutritional diet for millions of people. Avocados are already a big part of the culinary culture of many grower countries, and in recent years much of the fruit’s production has been for local consumption, not export. This might not only be for food, but other purposes - in South Africa for instance, half of the country’s produced avocados are used for food, or processed into oil and pulp. As the avocado industry continues to grow, and increasing the amount of irrigated land that can produce food, there will be other innovative ways for producer countries to benefit beyond exporting. #WorldFoodDay #avocado #avocadoindustry

Vinegar is a kitchen staple and is often touted as a natural way to remove pesticides and bacteria. While a vinegar solution can help reduce surface bacteria and some pesticides, it's not a cure for all. Studies have shown that a vinegar rinse might not be significantly more effective than just water. If you prefer using vinegar, make sure to dilute it with water and rinse the produce thoroughly afterwards so as not to leave any negative effects on the eating experience.
