Globally, the procurement market for MSMEs is worth trillions of dollars, and estimates say that less than 1% goes to women-owned businesses. Yet, there is a clear business case for procuring from women's enterprises, which goes well beyond the good thing to do. Looking forward to discussing what it will take to flip this story with other supercharged women entrepreneurs at the TiE Summit! #womenseconomicempowerment #flfpr #womenenterprises Sattva Consulting | Priyanka Anand Chadha | Lekhya Reddy | Shruti Venkatesan

Breaking Barriers: Women Leading Innovation and Driving Economic Growth Women #entrepreneurs are reshaping the startup landscape, outperforming their male counterparts with a 10% higher revenue over five years. This trend reflects their innovative prowess and economic impact in entrepreneurship. In India's tech sphere, women-led startups have surged to 18% in the last five years, showcasing their growing influence. Companies with diverse executive teams see a 25% higher likelihood of above-average profitability, highlighting the economic benefits of #women's_leadership in tech-driven sectors. To foster #gender_equality, organizations must cultivate inclusive cultures and provide targeted support through mentorship and leadership programs. Bridging the STEM gender gap is crucial, with female enrollment in STEM courses already at 43%, but requiring further enhancement. We always talk about #innovation and #innovators. Have we ever tried to deep dive into what influences an #individual to pursue his/her #profession in #innovation in India? What actually drives the motivation of an #innovator in India? #ciieducation made an attempt to deep dive into those factors through a #survey. The analysis of the findings have been highlighted below. #cii4education
A CII report on the Impact of #Social, #Economic and other factors in developing a culture of #Innovation - A Qualitative Study in the Indian Context was unveiled on 14th June 2024 in New Delhi. This report investigates the factors influencing innovation among Indian youths, focusing on socioeconomic status, gender, and other critical elements. A study conducted in the U.S. by Bell et al. earlier has concluded that the environment in which children grow up, including their socioeconomic background and exposure to innovation, plays a crucial role in determining their likelihood of becoming inventors. It highlighted that addressing these environmental factors could help in creating a more equitable and innovative society. However, there are hardly any studies that explore this relationship in the Indian context. Recognizing this gap, CII initiated this qualitative study to examine the importance of exposing Indian children to innovation and its impact on their potential to become innovators. The target audience for the survey consisted of R&D Employees of corporates, Start Ups, SMEs, patent filers besides few Technology Institutes for the survey from whom responses were sought through a questionnaire. After analysing the responses received from the survey, around 32% of the respondents felt that social factors play an important role in becoming an inventor, followed by 24% who believe in economic factors. 14% are of the opinion that peer pressure is also one of the factors in the play. 11% listed all the factors influence the journey. The survey findings highlighted a clear need for targeted initiatives at various educational levels to increase access to resources, promote diversity, and foster inclusive environments. Emphasis on mentorship, systemic support, and industry-academia collaboration is crucial for creating a robust innovation ecosystem. Institutions should focus on fostering innovative thinking alongside conventional academic achievements to better support aspiring innovators. In conclusion, while the path to innovation is challenging, it is also rewarding and transformative. Addressing systemic barriers, fostering inclusive environments, and providing supportive opportunities are essential for nurturing the next generation of innovators. The findings of the study highlight the complex interplay of gender, socioeconomic and racial disparities that hinder equal access to innovation opportunities and underscore the need for systemic changes to foster a more inclusive innovation ecosystem. #cii4education #followcii
