#live #update #WEMAC2024 #GAME #udaitievent "Women entrepreneurs face significant barriers—from the childcare burden and social norms to the lack of collateral and assets that prevent them from accessing finance. They often have to strive harder than men just to get equal opportunities. A bigger supporter of women's issues, even more so than the private sector, is the government. The most recent Union Budget was a gender responsive budget, with 6 percent set aside to solve challenges for women, which translates to 1 percent of India’s GDP. With more inclusive financial support from the government, we need to work towards bringing together the ecosystem players to strengthen market access”, said Saachi Bhalla, Deputy Director, Gender Equality at Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation at #WEMAC2024. In his keynote address, Ravi Venkatesan, Founder of GAME, discussed e-commerce platforms and businesses, highlighting insights from The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid, a book by C.K. Prahalad that advises ecommerce platforms to foster a two-way flow of trade, invest in building a collaborative ecosystem, and avoid operating in isolation. Empowering the Unheard: Enactus Maitreyi shines a spotlight on marginalized women! Amid Women's Day celebrations, it's essential to reflect on the often-overlooked roles that women play in society. While entrepreneurs, working professionals, and mothers rightfully receive recognition, the voices of marginalized women grappling with poverty and societal neglect often remain unheard. Enactus Maitreyi, a non-profit organization committed to social change, steps up to the challenge of acknowledging and uplifting these women, ensuring they feel valued and celebrated. During the fervour of Women's Day, it's common to spotlight the achievements of successful women breaking glass ceilings. However, Enactus Maitreyi and Enactus India recognize that true equality requires extending compassion and support to all women, especially those facing socio-economic hardships. Marginalized women, representing diverse backgrounds and circumstances, frequently find themselves on the fringes of celebrations and societal progress. Beyond symbolic gestures, Enactus Maitreyi takes concrete action through skill development programs, micro-enterprise support, and community-building projects. By addressing the root causes of marginalization, the organization actively works to enrich the lives of marginalized women, striving for sustainable change that uplifts these women and creates a positive ripple effect in their communities. As we celebrate Women's Day, let's remember that empowerment knows no bounds. Enactus Maitreyi serves as a beacon of hope, urging us to extend support to those who often go unnoticed. By recognizing the significance of marginalized women and actively working towards their upliftment, Enactus Maitreyi paves the way for a more inclusive and compassionate future. It's a testament to the fact that true celebration lies in ensuring that no woman is left behind, regardless of her circumstances. #socialentrepreneurship isn't just about doing good. It's about doing good while also driving business growth. As a passionate advocate for sustainable business practices and social entrepreneurship, I've dedicated the past 8 years to empowering #rural communities in India through IVillage A family. Our focus? Providing employment and financial independence to unskilled village women. But how do we balance social impact with the financial realities of running a business? The answer lies in strategic planning and financial analysis. By aligning our business model with #sustainabledevelopmentgoals (SDGs) such as No Poverty, Gender Equality, and Sustainable Cities and Communities, we've been able to create a sustainable business model that also makes a positive impact. Our commitment to these SDGs isn't just about ticking boxes. It's about creating a business that serves our customers and our communities. It's about leveraging technology and innovation to enhance our programs and create a more sustainable business model. And it's about advocating for policy changes that support the rights and well-being of marginalized communities.✨ The journey of social entrepreneurship is challenging, but the rewards are immense. It's about more than just profits. It's about making a difference. Let's create a more inclusive society together. #entrepreneur #SustainableBusiness #InclusiveSociety #women

Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: A Catalyst for Change Women entrepreneurship is not just about increasing income; it’s a transformative force that drives economic growth, social progress, and innovation. When women start their own businesses, they contribute significantly to growth in the economy and create job opportunities, boosting local and national economies. Also, women bring unique perspectives and experiences that foster creativity and innovation. Managing diverse portfolios and multi-tasking is one of the major fortes for women. And as a result, the impact goes beyond profits; engaging in communities, supporting local initiatives, education, and health. These women serve as role models for others, inspiring the next generation and encouraging young girls to pursue their dreams. Thus empowering women in business is a meaningful step toward closing the gender gap, promoting equality, and ensuring that women have a voice in economic decision-making. Just met some such women entrepreneurs in my recent visit to Assam. Celebrating and recognizing their vital role in shaping a brighter, more inclusive future! #csr #socialresponsibility #Womenempowerment

#Meta AI on CSR Part of my book In India, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a statutory provision under the Companies Act, 2013, which requires profit-making companies to spend a portion of their net profit on social causes aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This provision aims to promote responsible business practices and encourage companies to give back to society. The CSR activities should focus on areas such as: 1. Education 2. Healthcare 3. Poverty alleviation 4. Environmental sustainability 5. Gender equality 6. Children's welfare 7. Rural development 8. Disaster relief Companies are required to spend at least 2% of their average net profit over the preceding three financial years on CSR activities. This provision applies to companies with: 1. Net worth of ₹500 crores or more 2. Turnover of ₹1,000 crores or more 3. Net profit of ₹5 crores or more Your book, "CSR, ESG, and Charitable Institutions", likely explores this topic in depth and provides valuable insights for companies looking to implement effective CSR strategies.

The report from The Bridgespan Group, titled "Illuminating Impact: Why Gender Matters for Funders in Any Issue Area," provides compelling evidence for the significance of gender considerations in driving progress across various domains. Notably, it underscores the pivotal role of women in agricultural production, citing that women contribute an estimated 60% to 80% of food in low-income countries with projections indicating a 30% increase in agricultural yields and a reduction of up to 2 billion tons of carbon emissions by 2050. These, and other findings in the report underscore the critical importance of integrating gender perspectives into funding strategies to catalyze meaningful and sustainable advancements across diverse sectors. IWD is not about flowers and cake , it is about reflecting on where we are and where we need to go. It is about tangible outcomes. So I dedicate this post to celebrate some women in my immediate networks in Australia making real change every day. Geena Dunne founder and CEO of The Cova Project providing menstrual cups and menstrual health education to girls and women in developing communities around the world. Natalie Flynn who has dedicated her life and business to changing the gender pay gap through the platform she bootstrapped herself equidi. Vanessa Bell who not only owns and runs a cattle station (the largest land holding on the Eastern seaboard) using sustainable farming practises, but whose dedication to reforestation has led her to create a koala sanctuary through a carbon tree planting project on that station, while also designing and producing an eco-friendly merino wool fashion line. And to the younger women such as Xanthe Sheppard who only graduated in 2019 and is now Pipeline Technical Director at Games Studio Plastic Wax, hopefully changing the current woeful women in tech stats : 28% of the STEM workforce, including those in technology-related roles. 16% of executive and 23% of board positions in tech companies. There are some wins to celebrate - the release of Australia’s first-ever gender equality strategy and introduction of the 12% superannuation on publicly funded parental leave payments from 2025. Also the release of the Gender Pay Gap - while the data shone a harsh light on inequality, it is a first step towards fixing the problem. Let’s hope next IWD we have new stats to celebrate. (Full disclosure, I did love the flowers and eat the cake ) #IWD24
