As an organiser for Fridays For Future Kenya the last few days have been difficult - just a few days ago, we were organising the #GlobalClimateStrike in different parts of Kenya asking our leaders for concrete action on the climate crisis and here we are today - I have been receiving messages and calls from fellow activists, most of them part of communities living in informal settlements stating how the floods have affected them. Death, destruction, missing friends and family members is what the communities are currently dealing with. Over 120 people have died and more than 132,000 people affected in Kenya, alone, with an estimated 400,000 affected in East Africa. And yet, in spite of this, the rescue and relief efforts continue - if you're looking to support victims of flooding, below are youth grassroots groups that are working on rescue and food relief work.

When Floods Rise, So Must Our Commitment to Water Safety... Floods are a constant threat to the people of Bangladesh, where rising waters don’t just devastate homes and livelihoods—they claim lives. Each year, families face the terrifying reality that the very waters sustaining their community can also be fatal. For too long, floods have overwhelmed us, but we have the power to fight back—with knowledge, with preparation, and with SwimSafe. This program doesn’t just teach children to swim; it equips them with the skills to survive in the water, to be resilient in the face of nature’s unpredictability. Every child trained through SwimSafe becomes one less victim to the floods, one more voice against the rising tide of water-related deaths. Please share our video and together we can help turn the tide and save more lives. #preventdrowning #Swimsafe #SaveLives #ClimateCrisis #FloodRelief #Charity #TransformingLives #SreepurVillage #Bangladesh

Over 100 people killed and about 150 missing, and still counting. These floods have stretched across most of Rio Grande do Sul's 497 municipalities, have forced nearly 175,000 people from their homes. The numbers are flowing into disaster centres by the minute. Further heavy rains forecast for this week are expected to further exacerbate the situation in the region. The extreme weather has been caused by a rare combination of hotter than average temperatures, high humidity and strong winds. Rio Grande do Sul had always been a meeting point between tropical and polar air masses but these interactions have intensified with climate change. I hope that governments, hard-to-abate industries, climate change lobbyists, deniers, pseudoscientists, conspiracy theorists, media skeptics and climate heretics have their ear to the ground. But the immediate call to action is the support that is required. NGOs are burning midnight oil and your support is required. 🚨Hello, network. This post is directed to my connections outsite of Brazil. We need help!🚨 At this moment, there is a huge climate catastrophe happening in #RioGrandedoSul, in the southern region of Brazil. Extreme rains and flooding caused by #climatechange have destroyed bridges, homes, and isolated entire cities and rural properties. The state is bigger than the UK, and 85% of its cities are currently under water. The trail of destruction is already being compared to those of Hurricane Katrina. Rio Grande do Sul is one of the biggest pork, beef and dairy producers in Brazil, and there are thousands of herds that were lost and other thousands needing rescue, clean water and food. I am writing you to kindly ask for donations to NGOs working hard to help all of those affected by this tragedy. If you are not able to donate, please support us spreading the word to your network 🙏 - To donate to GRAD - Response Group for Animals in Disasters: https://lnkd.in/gkmxGCXx - To donate to Luz Alliance Fund: https://lnkd.in/gds7syDs: https://lnkd.in/gA9MzZmR - 🔗 News about the disaster: NY Times: https://lnkd.in/g5jEBRMV The Guardian: https://lnkd.in/ghwd8nZq BBC: https://lnkd.in/g_b9ff-d Al Jazeera: https://lnkd.in/gh7-vV62 Thank you!

The recent devastating floods in Maiduguri and Jere have left thousands of families in urgent need of our help. The scale of this disaster is immense, and the affected communities are struggling to cope with the aftermath. We urgently need your support to provide crucial aid to those impacted. Here’s how you can make a difference: Food Aid: Essential supplies such as rice, beans, and cooking oil are needed to ensure families have enough to eat. Shelter Kits: Many people have lost their homes. We need tents, nets, and blankets to provide temporary shelter and safety. Clean Water: Access to clean water is critical. Donations for water purification tablets and filters will help prevent waterborne diseases and ensure the health of the affected communities. Hygiene Kits: To maintain health and dignity, we need hygiene kits that include: Soap (bar and detergent), toothbrush, toothpaste, towel, sanitary pads (for females), underwear (male and female). Every contribution, no matter the size, can have a profound impact on the lives of those who are suffering. Your support will not only provide immediate relief but also offer hope and a path to recovery for those affected. Let’s come together to show our solidarity and compassion.
