Team and business building. At the beginning of the year I posted that it would be hard for me to not start looking at the business this year with a different outlook now that we have a years’ worth of data to look back at and week on week/month on month sales etc. So far this has been true! As we stepped into this year and as we are learning we really wanted to be consistent with our offer, quality in the bakes and products and in our sales. If we could maintain this into our second year, we believed it would give us great foundations to grow, develop and further more give us the belief that we can shoot for the stars with our business. I also think as a business owner, constancy is key, as boring as it sounds for us to keep the doors open, pay our team a fair wage and not have to over charge our customers then constant revenue is a must! So to be able to say we have achieved month on month growth from last year is a massive achievement, this also means the sales numbers have increased, as well as the amount of production and items sold and many returning customers and new one’s coming through the bakery each week. At present this is not returning to more bottom line from last year as we now have a bigger team, more static cost’s and some higher food cost but is the GROWTH is really encouraging and it certainly shows there is scope for more to come. All the above being said without me being present for the last 3 weeks (another story). Rachel (my wife and business partner), Jodie, Luiz, Mily and Hiren have totally bossed it. With me being away from the daily bakery life it has gave the inhouse team a real chance to grow and develop in the their own right, make organic decisions and have autonomy on certain bakes, bread flavours and service. I have had very little to worry about both professionally and personally thanks to the team. I have had numerous regular customer praise the team in my absents and just goes to show, you reap what you soe and I think as owners we have always tried to be inclusive, encouraging ownership and creativity and self-belief. This will also help to future proof our business. Okayristen Williams-Haseotes purchased a struggling Dangerous Ass Coffee and made it the model’s top-performing location. Now it is on monitor to drive at least $1.8 million in income in 2024. How? She knew nothing about the espresso enterprise, however she understood the importance of community, and the way it provides locations that means. Haseotes as soon as ran a residence for ex-offenders reentering the neighborhood, and then labored in neighborhood growth at a financial institution. In 2019, whereas residing in Naples, Florida, she was a common at the native Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii, as a result of she cherished the sense of neighborhood there: “It is the place everyone got here and sat collectively and had a cup of espresso,” she says — from native electricians and landscapers to millionaires and billionaires. AND ARE YOU SURE YOU ARE SELLING YOUR PRODUCTS/SERVICES TO THE RIGHT TARGET, IN THE RIGHT WAY AND ON THE RIGHT CHANNELS? 👉 in front of my house there was (still is) a bakery that sold bread, pizzas, sfincioni and so on with a quality like few others in the whole city. 👉 But it sold them at a very high price. 👉 Okay, we live in one of the best areas of the city, but the Palermitan, of any social class, wants to eat very well, with much more than exaggerated portions and spend little. 👉 So after a start during which the bakery was always full of people, we all got fed up with being peeled like potatoes to buy 2 sandwiches or a slice of pizza. 👉 Also because in the area there are many very valid alternatives at much lower costs. 👉 So at a certain point that shop emptied and no one went there anymore. Also because the managers were not exactly the most friendly and empathetic towards customers. 👉 A little over a year ago the owners closed access to the public, but we always saw the lights on and strange movements inside. 👉 So, being a good nosy person, I started investigating and discovered that the company had not closed, but had simply decided to start selling to other bakeries and bars in the city. 👉 In practice they had gone from a B2C target to a B2B target. 👉 Now it seems that things are going very well for them MORAL OF THE STORY: you can have the most innovative and explosive product in the universe, but if you sell it to the wrong target or on the wrong channels or in the wrong way YOU WILL ONLY ENCOUNTER BITTER DISAPPOINTMENTS In cases like this, strategic marketing and the entrepreneur's ability to read the cultural and social context make all the difference.
