It is a massive summer for sport, with Euro 2024 in its final week, Wimbledon underway, and the Olympics Opening Ceremony in just two weeks. That means millions of people will be visiting stadiums across Europe, using their services, apps and connectivity. But what does it take to connect a modern stadium? Well, Everton Football Club is currently in the final stages of building its new home at Bramley-Moore Dock, so I caught up with the Football Club's director of IT Phil Davies, who outlined his aim to deliver an unmatched fan experience and future proof the ground's connectivity. Everton recently announced HPE Aruba Networking as its connectivity partner for the Everton Stadium - I also spoke to Aruba's Simon Wilson about taking on this kind of project, and the company's experience connecting other cutting edge stadium's including Tottenham Hotspur's ground. The big takeaway is that uninterrupted connectivity is key to the modern event experience and offers unique opportunities for stadium owners to increase revenue, loyalty and fan engagement. Over the past two weeks, all sports fans in the world have had their eyes turned to Paris. Paris became a sport arena. During this event, 5G technology is playing a pivotal role in transforming the fan experience and ensuring the resilience of network operations amidst massive digital demands. From fans checking daily schedules to sharing live moments on social media, 5G is the enabler behind the smooth digital experience. Despite the significant increase in traffic demand, especially in city center (twice in some areas!), our network stays resilient, maintaining high-quality service. Notably, during peak times such as the opening ceremony or the cycling events, 5G traffic soared to more than double the usual load (even 133% higher in uplink). For the first time, it’s amazing to witness fans not only watching one event in person, but also streaming another competition on their phone at the same time – thanks to 5G! The networks are then vibrating with the city's pulse. For instance, when Leon Marchand won his 2 gold medals, our network mirrored the excitement with a 30% spike in traffic, showcasing how closely digital and physical experiences are intertwined. This global sporting event in Paris highlights how critical 5G is in shaping how we experience, share, and remember our most cherished moments. Bringing the incredible 5G experience to over 11 million fans during the year's biggest sporting event was a thrilling challenge that Orange and Ericsson tackled with passion! 📶 Once Orange was selected to provide networking for the event, they launched into action with Ericsson to close any gaps in the network and bolster it where needed. In fact, this effort saw 120 temporary sites and 40 temporary antennas installed across the Seine in Paris. 📡 This meant that fans could do whatever they needed. Whether they were in a fan zone but wanted to livestream another event amongst thousands of connected devices, or order their cab to take them home after watching the athletics in the Stade de France, 5G facilitated whatever fans wanted to do. 🚗 It's great to know that our network operators and their partners can work hand-in-hand to give us a better experience. 🤝 How important do you believe it is for network operators and partners to continue collaborating on such large-scale projects? What other areas outside of sports events could benefit from similar efforts? I’d love to hear your ideas! 💬👇 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dPtDNMGF #TeamEricsson #FanExperience #MakeItMemorable #EventTech #5G #ArtificialIntelligence #EventTech #FanExperience #Innovation #InternetOfThings #Leadership #Sustainability

👋 Goodbye Paris! The Olympics captured widespread attention, even drawing in those who aren’t usually sports fans — whether it was the Australian lecturer-breakdancer, the polarising opening ceremony or envying Snoop Dogg's $500k daily earnings as a correspondent. 🏦 In keeping with the trend, Bandera Agency focused on the fintech aspect of the Games. Historically, the Olympics have served as a launchpad for fintech innovations, showcasing a growing synergy between sports and financial technology that propels both industries towards greater innovation and global connectivity. 🕥 The 2008 Beijing Olympics introduced China’s ‘Great Wall’ prepaid card for tourists, enabling access to local payment systems. The 2012 London Olympics featured Samsung Electronics and Visa debuting smartphone-based payments and contactless cards. In 2018, Visa rolled out payment wearables, including gloves and pins, at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics. At the Tokyo Games in 2021, the IOC embraced new digital technologies by offering NFT Olympic pins through the nWayPlay marketplace. 🇫🇷 For Paris 2024, Visa continued its tradition of innovation with payment wearables and themed credit cards, emphasising its commitment to both athletes and spectators. The company’s data showed that US cardholders accounted for 29% of all overseas spending, with Brazilian and Japanese cardholders increasing their spending by 33% and 129%, respectively, compared to the previous year. ⏭️ The Olympics also partnered with Alibaba Group, which provided support for the Games in such fields as cloud infrastructure, cloud services, ticketing, and e-commerce platforms. In the UK, NatWest collaborated with Team GB to offer resources for British athletes looking to start small businesses. Additionally, Visa joined forces with Bulgaria’s First Investment Bank to launch Paris 2024-themed credit and debit cards. ✅ As the curtain falls on Paris 2024, it’s clear that the fusion of fintech and the Olympics continues to drive remarkable innovations, enhancing the experience for everyone involved and setting the stage for future advancements in both fields. Let’s see where it’s gonna get us in 4 years! #BanderaInsights #OlympicsFintech #Paris2024
