The #gifting culture around #Christmas is something that we all cherish. Receiving those tiny toys and #cakes in our schools, to today playing #SecretSanta in our corporates, we all eagerly await those little moments of joy – the unwrapping, the guessing, and the true happiness of receiving a gift. However big or small the gifts are, the joy of gifting is beyond words and expressions.
Brands also seize the opportunity to create meaningful #campaigns around the #celebrations. While we enjoy the diverse plots, storylines, and #jingles that brands concoct, there's one brand that consistently embodies the Christmas spirit of #goodwill in a very real and imaginative way.
Yes, I'm referring to Canadian airline, WestJet, which aspires to spread the joy of the season by orchestrating remarkable, sentimental, and interactive experiences for its passengers and employees each year through its #ChristmasMiracle campaign.
No spoilers but watch the ad from their 2013 real-time giving initiative. The five-and-a-half-minute runtime is well worth it to witness the passengers' #shocked, #excited, and #emotional reactions.
The most impressive aspect of this #campaign is that WestJet never advertised it. Yet, it garnered immense love across the internet. After posting the holiday video on YouTube in 2013, it quickly became the most shared #Canadian viral ad that year and ranked among the top five #globally.
The audience wholeheartedly loved the genuine #efforts of the brand and its employees. People organically shared the video without any advertising effort from WestJet, as the brand didn't want to commercialize it in the first place. The loyal community willingly spread the word because they genuinely valued the efforts and wanted to share it with others.
As WestJet celebrates the 11th anniversary of its cherished #RealTimeGiving initiative with a special twist this year (link in the comments), their 2013 ad remains my all-time favorite #Christmas campaign. I eagerly look forward to traveling on their airlines during the Christmas season one day 😅, and I think that’s the power of genuine, heartfelt initiatives.
