***Our future founders and start-up entrepreneurs*** Students from across the country took part at the launch of this year's Student Enterprise Programme for '24/'25. The largest programme of it's kind has seen over 400,000 students take part since it began 23 years ago. Three childhood friends in West Cork had a dream, to build a world class business in their home town and bring the employment that went with it. In 2003 John O'Connell, Ger McCarthy & Des McCarthy set up West Cork Distillers, way ahead of the whiskey curve. They are now exporting to over 70 countries with a turnover of over €100 million and in excess of 150 employees. In 2017, Orlaith Ryan and Sharon Cunningham had a dream of creating a pharmaceutical company that would change existing drugs to make them more suitable for patients. Shorla Oncology was born. However they needed help to get this idea off the ground and this is where their Local Enterprise Offices came in. Helping in the early stages to get the company off the ground. Now headquartered in Clonmel and Cambridge, Massachusetts, they recently acquired their 4th FDA approval in the US.
