Fair Wear Foundation’s Post

📢 Announcement 📢   We are pleased to announce that Fair Wear has completed the OECD - OCDE’s alignment assessment of industry initiatives for due diligence in the garment and footwear sector. As it stands, we are the only organisation in the garment industry that has been fully assessed on both standards and implementation and reassessed on standards.   We are exceedingly grateful to the OECD for their continued support throughout this valuable process and look forward to amplifying our efforts on ensuring due diligence implementation is both impactful and practical.   To read our response to the alignment assessment report, please see here: https://lnkd.in/eBSM4Ni4   To read the report in full, please see here: https://lnkd.in/di-xUWwA

🆕OECD - OCDE alignment assessment of Fair Wear Foundation against OECD due diligence recommendations – report out! #FairWear has taken significant steps to strengthen alignment with the OECD #Garment & #Footwear #duediligence Guidance and comes out partially aligned for the revised standards assessment (2024) and the implementation assessment (2022) ➡️ Download the report for details: https://brnw.ch/21wPym9 ➡️ Read Fair Wear's response: https://lnkd.in/eBSM4Ni4 The #FairWear assessment is part of the OECD’s ongoing work to assess sustainability initiatives to: ➡️ promote more reliable public information on sustainability initiatives ➡️ increase understanding of their role in due diligence, and their appropriate use ➡️ improve their credibility and alignment with OECD due diligence standards. 📖 The OECD carried out an initial full assessment of #FairWear between 2020-2022 (assessment of written standards, implementation & governance), followed by a re-assessment of revised standards in 2024. No re-assessment of implementation or governance was carried out. The assessment included: 👉 over 40 interviews with Fair Wear staff, board members and representatives from the committee of experts, auditors, member brands, factory managers, international and local civil society organisations, multi-stakeholder initiatives and trade unions 👉 4 shadow assessments of Fair Wear’s brand performance checks 👉 extensive document review of over 49 Fair Wear standards and policies Many thanks to #FairWear for your willingness to volunteer for an alignment assessment and for the time and effort spent by staff and members - and congratulations on the improvements made to foster alignment with OECD due diligence standards. 🌐Human rights and environmental due diligence is increasingly on the global policy agenda as governments seek to promote more sustainable financial flows and supply chains. Sustainability initiatives are adapting in different ways, leading to multiple and at times conflicting expectations on companies and confusion about what initiatives do and do not do, and what role they should and should not play in due diligence. While sustainability initiatives can be a multiplier for effective risk-based due diligence, they can also lead to over-reliance by companies if they are not understood and used in a way that is consistent with the international standards. 🔗 Read more about the OECD's work on sustainability initiatives: https://brnw.ch/21wPyma Allan Lerberg Jørgensen, Hannah Koep-Andrieu, Dorothy Lovell, Emily Norton, Andrea Schill Thorfinnur Omarsson Fair Wear Foundation #Sustainability #SupplyChains #RBC
