Thank you to the brilliant students at MIT Sloan School of Management and Telis Bertsekas! Every year, I have so much fun brainstorming the future of gaming, entertainment, web3 and AI, and each year iterates on the last as new digital economies have bubbled up and new foundations of digital neighborhoods have been laid.
We believe that the power of web3 will be unlocked by the coming explosion of inauthenticity driven by AI. We will demand better technology to reveal what is real, and what is human-generated. We will be in an online world which requires less trust, and offers more truth.
Our journey in Polkadot continues to evolve, and I was reminded today that SEC Chairman Gary Gensler attended the first course and made the case for NFTs as securities, even in games. We have come so far!
Finally, I took a detour this year to share some post-election thoughts from Cathie Wood of ARK Investment Management LLC, leaving the room hopeful as we embark on a golden age for equity investing, driven by the powerful force of converging innovations in technology!
Cathie Wood is MyEconomist
*Deja vu from the Reagan Administration: Back to back recessions and 15% interest rates, a difficult environment for investing, with investors concerned about the deficit. What happened - tax cuts and lower interest rates drove economic growth - the 1980s and 1990s were the golden age of active equity investing
*The Deficit and Tariffs, a misunderstanding in the market: Cathie isn’t a fan of tariffs but Trump’s promise of higher tariffs against countries who do not offer US companies a level playing field paired with lower taxes for US consumers and companies results in a powerful driver of growth. Add Elon Musk to efficiency and the deficit will drop.
*Trump wants a lower USD; Cathie believes the USD will be pushed higher as the US becomes relatively higher ROI
*Anti-inflation tailwinds: stronger dollar, lower tax rates, incentives for investment, productivity growth due to deflationary innovation such as AI, Digital Assets, and most commodities are prices in dollars -> downward pressure on commodity prices
*Interest rates are lower than the 80s but 5% Fed fund rate is relatively high and restrictive relative to lower inflation.
*What is next? An explosion of productivity due to innovation convergence and a changing of the guard - SEC (Chairman Gensler) and FTC (Lina Khan): Less Antitrust will drive more M&A
*A period of opportunity for innovation: Example: Digital Assets - Trump’s strategic Bitcoin Reserve and building the layer of the internet that is missing for commerce and digital property rights

Today we celebrate an icon. On this day in 1980, Pac-Man was launched in the US. It changed the world of video games forever – and gave us all a serious case of “Pac-Man Fever”.
Pac-Man’s journey is a great reminder of the power of timing and innovation.
The game was originally released as “Puck-Man” in Japan, but it was the US launch that turned Pac-Man into a cultural phenomenon. It shows us that even the most brilliant ideas sometimes need the right market and moment to truly shine.
So, what can we learn from Pac-Man? Sadly, nothing about ghosts.
But if you’re looking to expand your business, or launch a new product, Pac-Man shows that you should always know your audience and adapt to their needs. A little rebranding and the right distribution strategy can take something good and turn it into something legendary.
Let’s channel some of that Pac-Man energy into our own business goals.

October 10, 1980 Namco officially transfers rights to Midway for distribution of the games Pac-Mac and Rally-X in North America. While the exact date that Pac-Man started shipping to arcades in North America is currently unknown, most sources cite October of 1980. The Japanese release under the name “Puck-Man” had occurred in May of 1980,…
