Our molecular analysis team welcomes Rick de Graaf, an 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 from Avans University of Applied Sciences in 's Hertogenbosch. During his internship, he will develop 𝗮 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗣𝗙𝗔𝗦 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 and analyze them using LC-MS/MS. PFAS, also known as "forever chemicals," have a significant impact on the ecosystem and public health due to their extreme durability. Identifying and replacing these substances in products requires extensive research. During his internship, Rick will focus on the analysis of both pure fluoropolymers and mixed products such as printed circuit boards (PCBs). Through his research, he hopes to make a valuable contribution to the well-being of the population, future generations, and the environment. We wish Rick much success with this socially relevant and challenging project!

We are looking for possible candidates for a Master 2 Internship project in collaboration between the Physics Institute of Rennes (IPR) and the Lab of Science and Technology of Milk and Eggs (STLO) in Rennes (France). This internship is part of a broader research project started in 2022 with Romain Jeantet, Maude Jimenez and Jeehyun Lee. Our primary goal is to uncover the mechanisms of fouling deposit formation in the dairy industry. Based on recent works performed at the UMR STLO on fouling mechanisms in falling film evaporators using a rheological approach, this internship project (6 months) will focus on observing the flow of preheated (50-80°C) dairy protein solutions in microfluidic channels. The objective will be to characterize the presence of aggregates in flow and to determine the evolution of their size and number as a function of temperature and protein concentration. The acquired data will provide a better understanding of protein aggregation dynamics under shear. Students with a physics, process engineering and chemical engineering background will be mainly evaluated.

Today I gave my presentation on Maximizing R^2 values using Origin to my research colleague, Lakshmi Narayanan Ramasubramanian and my research advisor, Singh Narain at the OSU-Tulsa Helmerich Research Center. I learned so much in this internship especially about how diamond can be utilized in electronics. During my research, I analyzed Raman Spectroscopy data using the Origin Software and purified diamond powder for use in seeding in the diamond deposition process. Overall I loved the experience of looking at the synthesis of material used in electronics.

I am excited to share that I started my bachelor internship at the Physical Organic Chemistry department at the Institute for Molecules and Materials - Radboud University. I am doing research in the group of Evan Spruijt under supervision of Brent Visser. In the next 8 weeks I will be researching the characteristics of α-synuclein within different coacervates using a combination of techniques. Labeled cysteine mutants of α-synuclein will be used to investigate conformational changes and interactions with the coacervate environment. Raman microscopy will be used to determine the structure of the α-synuclein. α-synuclein is a protein associated with neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's disease. Therefore, this research is important for further investigation on this protein. I am very excited to learn new skills and hopefully have a positive contribution. It is also the final step before finishing my bachelor! ⚗ 💊 #internship #research #bachelor

Mastering Serial Dilution in the Lab -In the lab, serial dilution is a key technique I use to create solutions with progressively lower concentrations. -By taking a known volume of a high concentration stock solution and diluting it with a solvent, I can achieve precise concentration gradients. -Each step involves using the newly diluted solution as the stock for the next dilution. -This method is crucial for various experiments like preparing calibration curves in analytical chemistry. #Chemistry #LabWork #SerialDilution #Science #Research #AnalyticalChemistry #kfmrc #internship

M1 or M2 internship in our group available for a motivated Master student starting 2025! "Synthesis and NMR studies of lead-free perovskite nanocrystals capped with bio-inspired ligands" During this internship, we propose to develop the synthesis of Pb-free Bi-based #perovskite #nanocrystals with tailor-made bio-inspired ligands designed to passivate cationic and anionic surface defects. This approach aims to improving both the optical properties and the stability of the nanocrystals. The PNCs will be studied using a variety of methods, including optical spectroscopies, microscopy, and X-ray diffraction, alongside advanced state-of-the-art characterization by DNP-NMR. The study will build on the breakthrough results recently achieved on similar systems through the ongoing collaboration between the SyMMES and MEM labs of the CEA-Irig, Grenoble and will be supported by a PhD student. Proposed by myself and Gaël De Paëpe. If interested - contact me for further information. #Master #internship

I have done my internship on Synthesis and Characterization of Discotic Liquid Crystals and study of Organic Framework for Optoelectronic applications. I have learnt about different types of mesogens which mainly consists of ordered Lattice form which conducts electricity and unordered liquid form which acts as an insulator; thus an intermediate state of matter. I have also come across various theories and applications of DLC which allow them to be used in optoelectronic devices.
