The HARMONIC project, led by #EIH the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub, aims at advancing future demand-capacity balancing #DCB and dynamic airspace configuration #DAC tools.   Every day, flow managers, controllers and network operations controllers collaborate to balance air traffic, which is essential for flight timeliness and a positive passenger experience.   🎯 HARMONIC, a SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking project with 18 partners from across Europe, aims at providing these professionals with advanced tools and decision-making support to ensure efficient air traffic management #ATM as traffic increases.   The project includes two solutions:   📌 Enhanced Demand Management - This solution addresses situations where demand exceeds capacity, introducing tools for:    ✈ informed decision-making with enhanced stakeholder coordination    ✈ the exchange of business needs and operational constraints.   📌 Enhancing DCB Efficiency - Advanced DAC Process solution focuses on:    ✈ capacity provision, offering data-driven insights to optimise airspace utilisation    ✈ civil-military cooperation, providing enhanced information services for dynamic airspace reservations.   🎞️ Watch the video to learn more or contact Jacek Kopeć.   #aviation #innovation #networkmanagement

On Thursday, during the Project Review Meeting in Brussels, the ISLAND consortium presented an overview of 𝙎𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 0331 𝘿𝙞𝙜𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙖𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙩𝙮 to the SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking. Our focus remains on 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 through eight validation exercises aimed at assessing key elements of the Digital Capacity operational concept. These exercises explore various scenarios to optimize air traffic resources, emphasizing the 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀. Our efforts are centred on enhancing the generation, estimation, and assignment of capacity, with a focus on predictive capabilities for demand and capacity measure impacts, traffic demand and loads. The exercises encompass advanced DCB, trajectory segmentation, and traffic flows, enhanced trajectory prediction for accurate DCB solutions, sharing of performance indicators at local and network levels, better traffic load predictions for improved demand measures, ML-based airspace configuration assessment, determination of optimal demand and capacity measures for minimal impact, improved DAC optimization algorithms, and the utilization of TTAs for long-haul flights to mitigate delays and emissions at airports. During our recent demo in Skopje, air traffic controllers and industry experts got to experience CoRA firsthand and the response was remarkable! 💫 Designed to empower ATCOs with cutting-edge support, CoRA isn’t just a tool; it’s a leap forward in enhancing safety, efficiency, and decision-making in air traffic control. Here are some highlights from the valuable insights we gathered: 💠 True-to-Life Simulation: Participants were impressed by CoRA’s realistic simulation of ATC conditions, praising its ability to mirror the complexities of live traffic and decision-making, helping them feel prepared for real-world scenarios. 💠 Support, Not Replacement: Controllers appreciated that CoRA enhances their decision-making without overshadowing their expertise. CoRA provides valuable recommendations while respecting ATCO judgment, leaving the final decisions in their capable hands. 💠 Operational Flexibility: CoRA’s adaptable design supports a range of operational needs, from vertical maneuvering tools to real-time traffic adjustments, giving controllers greater flexibility in managing complex airspace and ensuring optimal outcomes for both efficiency and safety. 💠 Constructive Challenges and Continuous Improvement: The feedback highlighted important points for future development, such as the importance of accuracy, ease of integration, and customization. How have States and #aviation stakeholders started the implementation of the TBO Concept? Our #GlobalTBO Symposium explained which key capabilities and solutions have already been delivered to make initial TBO possible. EUROCONTROL’s Gheorghe Augustin gave a presentation on the EUROCONTROL Network Manager’s progress on the implementation of FF-ICE, the flight and flow information for a collaborative environment. FF-ICE is the foundation of TBO that provides for increased, digitalised information sharing in a standard format making use of SWIM services. FF-ICE is about sharing, maintaining and using flight information. With the implementation of FF-ICE EUROCONTROL NM has moved from text-based flight plans to FF-ICE flight plans (eFPL) with substantially more details and with higher granularity of flight information such as performance data and 4D trajectory. Information inside eFPL is more appropriate for machine-reading which translates into an opportunity for more automation. Enis Aksu from Lufthansa Group shared the Group’s experience with Trajectory-Based Operations stressing how TBO is a core air traffic management pillar to support efficiency and the reduction of emissions. Together with EUROCONTROL MUAC, Maastricht Upper Area Control, which is the only ATC unit that has been operating ATS B2, Lufthansa Group analysed 3 use cases according to traffic flows through MUAC and their potential benefits for later start of descent, earlier direct routings and better en-route delay absorption. Peter Hendrickx, our Head of the ATM Development Unit at EUROCONTROL MUAC shared the progress that was made on TBO at MUAC with #datalink implementation at MUAC. Ludovic Legros EUROCONTROL Datalink Program Manager covering Datalink program status to include briefing their summer program targets: new VDL2 alternate frequencies, increase the Common Signaling Channel Offload, increase crew logon rate above 75%, raise awareness and train crew about GNSS interference, ensure 100% of filed flight plans meet the 'J1' of 'Z' fling category requirements within 3 months, and eliminate repetitive uplink (Italy) within 4 months. They will take the summer 2024 lessons learned to prepare for summer 2025. Eurocontrol Vision: Significantly enhance the operational usage and efficiency of ATN-B1 by prioritizing areas where capacity is most needed, achieving targeted improvements by summer 2025 and summer 2026, and extending these benefits across the entire network for airline operational efficiency. Leverage multilink solutions, starting with dual-link VDLM2 and SATCOM IRIS, as key enablers to strengthen the resilience of the European datalink network. 👏 Congrats to EUROCONTROL for the completion of the Project Towards Shared Business Trajectory / Trajectory Based Operations, also contributed by Sabre Corporation / CAE Flight Services.     ✅ The Network Manager technical components and CAE system adaptation for eFPL exchanges were implemented. The supporting materials for future operational use were elaborated.       ✅ This implementation project contributed to the deployment of the #SESAR Deployment Programme Family 5.6.1 “Flight Information Exchange” by the Network Manager (NM).    ✅ Based on previous CBAs, under the assumption of CP1 full deployment, the project represents a significant contribution to improve ATC capacity, ATCO productivity at network level and an increase of flight efficiency and capacity for the years to come as of 2024 with an estimated benefit of some €25 million.      ✈ The NM systems deployment of the project allowed the implementation of operational processes and procedures in compliance with the ICAO FF-ICE  R1 pre-departure phase developments and making use of the yellow SWIM TI Profile.     ✈ Additionally, the NM services will continue to support the existing messaging data exchanges in order to allow the progressive migration of the stakeholders to SWIM compliant technologies.      🎤 "We are proud as EUROCONTROL to have exchanged and negotiated the 4D Trajectory between NM and airspace users and ATC (ANSPs, Airports) via the implementation of the ICAO FF-ICE (FF-ICE/1 phase 2 and Phase 3 (Planning phase) provisions, procedures and processes in compliance with the yellow SWIM TI Profile.     The tangible deliverables for NM of the FPFDE Implementation Strategy for TBO and FF-ICE, three NM system releases (25.26,27), Ops documentation for NM Releases, IFPS Manual, and various guidelines.     Furthermore, NM has contributed to the definition of processes, procedures and any standard related to FF-ICE/2 (Execution phase) in ICAO, which will serve for later implementation.      Our implementing partner CAE has transformed its Flight Planning Systems and developed operational procedures, aligned with the above mentioned NM releases and NM B2B connections, in the context of FF-ICE/1, FIXM, and SWIM Yellow Profile."    #SESARdelivers #AsOne #ATM #aviation  CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency  European Commission  

🚀 Exciting developments in ATC-to-ATC #interoperability! The #SESAR Deployment Manager, in collaboration with air navigation service providers and the Network Manager, successfully led the last meeting of the working group focused on ATC-to-ATC interoperability.   🙏 We are grateful for the insights and contributions provided by all participants setting a clear path forward for ATC interoperability across Europe and beyond.   ✅ In the short to mid-term, developing the existing OLDI mechanism, as demonstrated by Naviair and LFV, will improve seamless ATC coordination and handover processes for current systems. ✅ A robust long-term mechanism that builds on previous achievements, proven operational experience and that incorporates innovative digital concepts will drive significant advancements in ATC interoperability for the future of #ATM.
