Did you know #Vienna is one of Europe’s most active #Interreg regions? Since 1990, it’s been driving change across mobility 🚊, sustainability 🌱 and social inclusion 🤝 Projects like #EfficienCE, supported by Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE Programme, are integrating renewable energy into public transport systems, reducing emissions and making commuting greener 🌿 #CityWalk2.0, from Interreg Danube Region Programme, is redesigning urban spaces to encourage walking 🚶♂️ and minimize car dependency, creating healthier cities for everyone. Meanwhile, #CityNature from Interreg Slovakia-Austria focuses on biodiversity by weaving green corridors into city planning, turning Vienna into a model for urban sustainability 🌳 And it doesn’t stop there! #SIforREF, another Central Europe initiative, fostering social inclusion and transforming challenges into opportunities. 🤝 At the same time, #CERIecon is empowering young entrepreneurs to create businesses that benefit both people and the planet 🌍 Vienna is proof of how cooperation transforms challenges into opportunities. How Cool to Be Used as an Exemplar by the Joint Secretariat of Interreg North-West Europe (NWE)! Cool Neighbourhoods - Cool Neighbourhoods thank you also for the investment and trust in our project! We’re thrilled to announce that the Cool Neighbourhoods project was showcased as an exemplar by the Interreg North-West Europe (NWE) Joint Secretariat at the annual event in Dublin! This recognition underscores the innovative strides we’re making to tackle some of the most pressing urban challenges related to climate adaptation, urban greening, and community well-being across NWE. Cool Neighbourhoods focuses on building resilience against heat stress while enhancing urban liveability through nature-based solutions and sustainable urban designs. By combining local expertise, cutting-edge technology, and targeted community engagement, the project aims to create safer, greener public spaces that contribute to better air quality, biodiversity, and social cohesion. The project’s objectives are comprehensive, as follow: Reducing heat stress in dense urban areas through increased greenery and shading. Enhancing biodiversity and integrating green infrastructure. Improving community resilience by directly involving citizens, especially vulnerable groups, in planning and development processes. Promoting climate resilience and sustainability practices across pilot cities and neighbourhoods. With nine pilot areas spread across Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and France, Cool Neighbourhoods is a transnational effort that serves as a model for other cities in North-West Europe, providing practical examples and innovative solutions that can be scaled and adapted across the region. 🌍 Cool Neighbourhoods is proud to contribute to a more resilient, connected, and climate-conscious Europe! Travelling to visit your friends and family or dropping off kids at after school activities are not a concern - if traffic is running smoothly. And Denmark, like any other country, needs continuous development of its infrastructure 🚌🚓🚗 In this video, Senior Market Director Michael Knørr Skov voices his opinion on why we need a long-term and green national mobility plan that is both socially and environmentally sustainable. “A long-term national mobility plan for Denmark should take a holistic approach and consider the users of mobility solutions, how it relates to our cities and its impact on resource consumption. Furthermore, it should contribute to enhancing sustainability, both environmentally and socially,” he explains. #infrastructure #mobility

On Tuesday an important milestone to #JustMobility was set: the #HamburgCharter for Inclusive and Just Mobility was signed by more than 20 international organizations at the Hamburg Sustainability Conference. 📓🖋️🤝 🚈 What’s it about? The Hamburg Charter is grounded on the understanding that mobility is a basic human right and the transition to low-carbon transport systems must enable fair, dignified, safe and #sustainablemobility for all citizens! 🔍 What does it include? It includes 8 principles like “Inclusivity in Transport” or “Accessible and Climate-Resilient Infrastructure”. It also gives implementation guidelines on different levels (eg. local, national, international). 🌍 At the same time 5.400 kilometers away, our colleagues were discussing and elaborating on exactly the points mentioned in the charter with 20 experts from 12 different African countries. 🌍 💡 What’s happening? On Monday the first of three workshops on “Turning Points for Sustainable Transport in Africa” was launched in Accra, Ghana. This workshop, part of the Rethinking Transport project and hosted together with Agora Verkehrswende, focused on the crucial theme of #JustMobility. 📚 What will come next? Over the next 6 months, we will host two more workshops, delving into #Emobility and #ResilientInfrastructure. The insights from these sessions will be compiled into a comprehensive report set for publication in 2025, including extensive reviews and discussions. #WeChangeTransport (CT) Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH; Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme); Institute for Transportation and Development Policy; World Resources Institute; KfW; Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative; Verena Knöll; Cabrel Tokam; Naville Geiriseb; Amanda Ngabirano; Dennis Kange; Carly Gilbert-Patrick; Claire Birungi; Cynthia Kipsang; Anne Kamau; Kwame Odame, PhD; Juliet Adu; Stefanie Holzwarth; Helvi Meke Petrus (PhD,FCILT); Lesego Moshikaro-Amani; Dr. Gladys Moraa.M.
