Katunga Fresh Glasshouse in Off-Market Deal ASX-listed fund manager Centuria Capital Group announced it has expanded its agricultural portfolio with the acquisition of Latimga Fresh’s 21-hectare glasshouse facility located in Katunga, Victoria. The off-market sale-and-leaseback deal was secured on a 20-year triple-net lease by the unlisted, open-ended Centuria Agriculture Fund (CAF), bringing the fund’s portfolio to encompass five of Australia’s large-scale tomato glasshouse infrastructure facilities. https://hubs.li/Q02yw2Hy0

Swedish startup OlsAro has raised €2.5 million ($2.7 million) in a seed round led by Future Food Fund and PINC, with participation by AgFunder, FLORA Ventures, Mudcake, and current investors. 👏 The funding will be used to expand the team and commercialise OlsAro's first product, a salt-tolerant wheat variety that has shown significant yield increases in field trials in Bangladesh. CEO Elén Faxö says this variety would enable farming on otherwise unfarmable land. OlsAro is also working on developing crops that are more heat-tolerant and have improved nitrogen efficiency, reducing dependence on synthetic fertilizers. Oishii raised $134 Million💰 When everybody thought it was impossible in vertical farming any more. How? 🌱 Vertical farming has been under market correction for the past year. 2023 funding in Novel farming systems slumped by 75% to $680 million from $2.8 billion a year ago. 💡 The hype was followed by a realization of energy costs, unrealistic unit economics, difficulty in recouping investments and strong competition from conventional farming. Many big names like @Aero Farms, @App Harvest and Infarm went bankrupt. 💥 But Oishii took different paths. Instead of growing leafy greens, it focused on only two types of premium strawberries specific to Japanese regions and grown per that indoor climate. 🍓 They focused on quality over quantity and taste instead of scaling like crazy. 🎯 Now their recently introduced Rubi Tomatoes blend sweetness, acidity, and umami perfectly and sales are topping supplies by miles. 🍅 But their biggest strength is their proprietary pollination technology using bees that greatly cut the costs, whereas conventional LED-based farms make it hard for bees to navigate. 🐝 The current funding will go into market expansion and a new solar-powered facility.
