A close friend of mine is in the thick of it right now, and the situation is nothing short of frustrating. With outdated curriculums that leave graduates unprepared, they’re left with no choice but to shell out upwards of ₹50,000 for private training institutes. And what do they get after that? A job that pays ₹3-4 LPA if they’re lucky. Moving to a city like Bangalore for these jobs means even more expenses, with relocation alone costing at least ₹10,000. And just when you think it can’t get any worse, companies throw in a bond for 2-3 years and demand security deposits in the form of post-dated cheques worth several lakhs. How is this fair to anyone just starting their career? This industry is tough to crack, and it feels like the odds are stacked against freshers from the start. 🌟 Never Giving Up: My Journey from College to Job Search 🌟 Hey LinkedIn fam, I wanted to take a moment to share a bit of my journey with you all. 🚀 I started my college journey back in 2018 at MIT WPU Pune, filled with dreams and aspirations. Fast forward to 2022, I graduated with a degree in Computer Science and Engineering. But life had other plans for me. The COVID-19 pandemic hit during my second year, and like many others, I spent the remainder of my college years at home. My ultimate goal was to pursue my master's at USC and land a job in the USA. However, due to financial constraints and family matters, pursuing further education abroad wasn't feasible. Instead, I found myself helping out with my family business. But in the summer of 2023, I decided to embark on a new journey: the job hunt. It wasn't easy. Rejection after rejection, and countless resume rejections at the first round left me feeling defeated. It was a tough period, but I refused to give up. Despite the challenges, I'm still here, pushing forward and fighting for my dream job. I share this not to seek sympathy, but to remind anyone facing similar struggles that you're not alone. The journey may be tough, but every setback is a stepping stone to success. The competition was a two-round event that tested not just our talents but also our ability to think critically and respond under pressure: **1. Talent Round **- I chose to showcase my passion for music by singing, which secured my place in the final round. **2. Interview Round **- In this round, I faced a series of challenging questions crafted by my seniors and faculty, similar to those in major pageants like Miss India. These questions assessed our interpersonal skills, decision-making abilities, and how we handled hypothetical situations. It was an opportunity to demonstrate not just knowledge but also character, confidence, and clarity of thought. ** Final Decision **- The faculty cast their votes privately, and I was honored to be selected as the winner by a majority vote. Winning this title was more than just a recognition of talent; It was a significant milestone in my personal and professional growth. It reinforced my belief in the importance of staying composed under pressure, thinking on my feet, and always presenting my best self. Tata Elxsi to hire at least 1,500 engineering freshers Tata Elxsi plans to hire 1,500 to 2,000 engineering freshers in FY25, depending on deals and revenue. Despite a slight drop in profit, the company's revenue rose to Rs 905 crore in Q4 FY24. It had hired over 2,000 freshers in FY23 and aims to maintain growth without reducing margins. The decline in MCA (Master of Computer Applications) programs at leading institutions is worrying. IIT Roorkee, NIT Durgapur, NIT Calicut, and NIT Patna have all stopped offering MCA, and "NIT Surathkal" will follow in 2025. This trend is concerning for several reasons. MCA used to be a top choice for tech enthusiasts, but it's losing support from both educational institutions and companies. Students invest over 5 lakhs and often take out loans to pursue this degree, yet many MCA graduates, including those from the 2021 batch, are struggling to find jobs. It seems like employers and placement cells are prioritizing graduates from BTech, MTech, and MBA programs over MCA graduates. This shift is creating challenges for MCA students and making it hard for them to secure employment. Given that the IT industry needs skilled professionals, the reduction in MCA programs is troubling. To address this, there should be a thorough review of the MCA curriculum, improved faculty, and better placement support to help the program regain its value and reputation.
