NEXE Innovations Inc (TSX-V:NEXE, OTC:NEXNF) announced the appointment of Tom Hoyne as a strategic advisor to support the company’s operations in the coffee segment. Hoyne brings over 35 years of experience in food operations and manufacturing, including two decades at Kicking Horse Coffee, where he served as vice president of coffee and quality. In the global beverage industry, there were 57 M&A deals announced in Q1 2024, worth a total value of $223m, according to GlobalData’s Deals Database. The $130m acquisition of Coca-Cola Bangladesh Beverages by CCI International Holland and Coca-Cola Icecek was the industry’s largest disclosed deal. In the Indian beverage industry, there were 3 M&A deals announced in Q1 2024, worth a total value of $29.1m, according to GlobalData's Deals Database. The $24.7m minority acquisition of B9 Beverages by Kirin was the industry's largest disclosed deal. With things heating up in the Industry, there are three distinct possibilities that emerge out of the Q1 2024 developments : 1️⃣ Emerging Market Focus: The dominance of M&A activity in emerging markets like Bangladesh and India signals a strategic shift towards capturing growth opportunities in these regions. With rising disposable incomes and evolving consumer preferences, multinational beverage companies are increasingly targeting emerging markets for expansion. The acquisition of Coca-Cola Bangladesh Beverages and B9 Beverages by international players underscores the importance of establishing a strong foothold in these high-growth markets to drive revenue and market share growth. 2️⃣ Diversification and Portfolio Enhancement: The diversity of M&A deals, ranging from large-scale acquisitions to minority stakes, highlights the industry's focus on portfolio diversification and enhancement. 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘀𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗴 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘃𝗶𝗰 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗠𝗔 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 👀 The competition watchdog is investigating Carlsberg Group's takeover of Britvic plc 🍺 The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is investigating Carlsberg’s £3.3bn acquisition of Britvic, with concerns that it would have a monopoly on the UK drinks market. The merged company, to be named Carlsberg Britvic, is intended to expand into “multiple drinks sectors” and create an “enlarged international group”. However, the CMA has been looking into whether it would reduce competition in the drinks market, a fear retailers expressed when the deal was announced. Concerns of cost-cutting and cutting down of representatives were also heard. The investigation will asses whether the takeover could result in market dominance at the expense of consumers with higher prices, lower quality products or less choice for customers. The deal is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2025. At the time of the deal being made, Ian Durant, non-executive chair of Britvic, said: “The proposed transaction creates an enlarged international group that is well-placed to capture the growth opportunities in multiple drinks sectors. “Crucially, to remain competitive at a time when the market is being shaped by the trend of increasing consolidation among bottling partners, Carlsberg’s agreement with PepsiCo provides the combined group with a strong platform for continued success.” The CMA is issuing an ‘invitation to comment’ to allow the public to submit any views on the impact that the transaction could have on UK competition. https://lnkd.in/e9XvufZb

Will this continue ? Where and when will the exits happen ? 𝐌𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. We are now in the for a long game, as strategies change, new younger leaders take charge and long accepted norms are not only challenged but contradicted. 𝐈 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 a shift to: 1️⃣ Less total launches - more considered quality 2️⃣ Building long-term value 3️⃣ Bootstrapping 4️⃣ Profitability 5️⃣ Slow considered growth 6️⃣ Patient, realistic investors None core brands will be shed from big portfolios. I think non-alc and alternatives to alc will see more focus from Big Alc. This is all cyclical, and there are always exceptions. What have I missed ?

Britvic, a UK-based soft-drinks supplier, has rejected two takeover bids from Carlsberg Group. Carlsberg's latest offer, sent on June 11, was around £3.2 billion ($3.9 billion) for Britvic, or 1,250 pence per share. Britvic stated that the second proposal undervalues the company and its future prospects. Carlsberg, one of the world's largest brewers, believes that a deal would allow them to capture long-term growth opportunities from Britvic's leading brands in the beverage market. Carlsberg's acquisition aligns with their growth strategy to expand beyond beer. Carlsberg markets its own soft drinks, while Britvic handles PepsiCo's beverages in the UK and Ireland. Carlsberg takes a disciplined approach to evaluating acquisitions and will only proceed with a transaction that is strategically and financially attractive. If an offer is made, it is likely to be in cash and fully debt financed. The second offer for Britvic represented an implied enterprise value multiple of over 13 times Britvic's adjusted EBITDA. It also marked a premium of 29% to Britvic's closing price prior to press speculation. Both parties have stated that there is no certainty another offer will be made. In the first half of fiscal year 2024, Britvic reported a 10.9% increase in revenue, a 15.3% increase in EBIT, and a 10.1% rise in profit after tax. The company's revenue primarily comes from its business in Great Britain, accounting for 68% of its revenue. Britvic also operates in other markets, such as France and Brazil. Carlsberg's business in the UK focuses on its Carlsberg Marston's Brewing Co. unit, which is a joint venture with Marston's, with Carlsberg owning a majority share. https://lnkd.in/esRCum6m
