Leading Causes of Skills Shortages in the Renewable Energy Sector According to recruiters and companies in the industry, primary drivers of the skills shortage include gaps in education, training, and succession planning. The skills shortage challenge is also systemic: organizations feel it would be beneficial to have a large emerging talent pool, and they also believe it would be great if there was a quicker means of reskilling and upskilling people internally without compromising on risk. To ensure the success of high-quality skilling programs, it is crucial to closely examine and address the challenges that can impact their effectiveness. The renewable energy sector is not alone; unemployment rates are historically low in many countries while future skills needs are rapidly evolving. There is no quick fix, but there is clearly an opportunity to do more succession planning and building the pipeline through programs like apprenticeships and internships. Recent estimates suggest that, by 2030, there will be a global shortage of seven million skilled workers required for climate and energy projects. Looking to pivot into a green career but worried about the skills gap? Learn how one former oil industry engineer successfully transitioned to renewable energy, and how you can too! We like to bring you up and close with James, a former petroleum engineer who successfully transitioned to managing offshore wind projects. His secret? Understanding that 80% of his existing project management and technical skills were transferable – he just needed to adapt them to a new context. This is the kind of insight we will be bringing to Green Jobs Everywhere. Even though James did not achieve this feat through Green Jobs Everywhere, but you certainly will be able to do this as we grow. After we launch on the 1st of January 2025, and can confirm that job matches and processes are underway smoothly, we will then proceed to commence implementation of our unique Skills Translation Tool that helps you identify how your current expertise maps to green sector opportunities. Powering Scotland's Future ⚡️ As Scotland continues to lead the way in renewable energy, the power transmission sector is more critical than ever. One of the key drivers behind this progress is the focus on training and professional development for our workforce. 🌍 In the past few years, we've seen a surge in initiatives aimed at upskilling professionals in the power transmission industry. From apprenticeships to advanced training programmes, these initiatives are designed to ensure our workforce is equipped with the latest skills and knowledge. For instance, the Scottish Government's Energy Skills Partnership (ESP) has been instrumental in providing tailored training solutions that align with industry needs. According to ESP, over 1,500 individuals have benefited from their programmes in the last year alone. 📚 Moreover, many companies are investing in continuous professional development (CPD) for their employees. This not only helps in retaining top talent but also ensures that the workforce is always ahead of the curve. With the rapid advancements in technology and the increasing complexity of power transmission systems, CPD is no longer a luxury but a necessity. If you're passionate about the energy sector and want to be part of this exciting journey, let's connect! Feel free to drop a comment or reach out to me directly at kirstin.marshall@contractscotland.co.uk. Let's power Scotland's future together! 🚀 #recruitment #recruitmentredefined #powertransmission
