In 2023, Pacific Community Ventures made a resolute commitment alongside the Clinton Global Initiative to inaugurate our Climate Justice Mobilization Initiative. Climate change isn't solely an environmental concern—it's a matter of racial and economic justice. Our focus on racial justice directly intersects with our climate initiative. Last year, 71% of our loans to low to moderate income (LMI) communities were disbursed in high and moderate climate risk areas. America's "left-behind" places are becoming the "leap-forward" climate innovation hubs ! I am heartened to learn that 40% of announced US private investments in building a clean economy will flow into the historically disadvantaged communities in America. This is the strongest evidence that Biden Administration's promise to uplift left-behind communities by leveraging federal funding like Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) - which offers incentives to private sector to invest in a green economy - is creating a positive social impact at the *grassroots* (county) level. And yet... With just 3 days left before the US presidential election, I am astonished at how poorly first the Biden Administration and then the Harris campaign has *communicated* the once-in-a-century SOCIAL impact created by federal investments like IRA. Biden + Harris team did communicate the fact these federal investments in clean energy + climate tech are creating JOBS across America. But they didn't mention how some counties and regions are leveraging federal funds + private investments to undertake a SYSTEMIC TRANSITION and not just an energy transition. Read my Stanford Social Innovation Review article that explains how left-behind communities can undertake a #systemic #transition that yields multiple benefits: https://lnkd.in/eNjHwyyV Check out ReImagine Appalachia, a nonprofit that has catalyzed a systemic transition in the Appalachia by wisely leveraging federal investments like IRA: https://lnkd.in/emWTaZRg .

Exciting news! At PolicyLink, we are thrilled to announce the release of our comprehensive step-by-step guide on optimizing federal investments to benefit underserved communities in collaboration with @Emerald Cities Collaborative. We're working with state and local policymakers to help agencies navigate this process while following President Biden's groundbreaking Justice40 Initiative. This moment offers a critical opportunity to support thriving communities, which is ours to take and deliver on. The Justice40 Initiative aims to ensure that 40% of the overall benefits of certain federal investments — spanning climate, clean energy, affordable and sustainable housing, and more — flow to underserved communities. This initiative presents a unique opportunity for state and local governments to channel critical resources into communities that have been marginalized by underinvestment or overburdened by pollution. The guide covers how to: ✅ Identify J40 covered programs; ✅ Center project benefits in marginalized communities; ✅ Identify and consider community benefits and burdens; ✅ Develop a community benefits plan. This is a pivotal moment to ensure that federal investments reach the communities that need them the most. Let's seize this opportunity to drive meaningful change. Read more about our guidance and how you can implement these strategies in your community: https://lnkd.in/gTEc-Qc2 #Justice40 #CommunityInvestment #PolicyLink #EmeraldCitiesCollaborative #FederalFunding #SustainableCommunities #ClimateJustice

12. The next step is to gather broad political support for the economic transformation There is already growing support for action to stop current trends. And emerging initiatives like Wellbeing Alliance, Green Deal, New Deal Ecological Civilization. The need now is to scale up a major advocacy and public campaign to drive the conversation on economic systems change and open up policy windows. Earth4All will do its bit.
