🏡 Discover The Cowshed: Elevating Heritage in Somerset! 🌿 The Cowshed, nestled in the heart of Somerset, stands as a testament to transformation and modern living. An extension and re-model of a previously converted cowshed, this project was designed in-house by Greenheart. 🏗️ A Journey of Design Excellence: This building and plot underwent a thorough design process, exploring various options, including demolition/new-build and multiple iterations of the final design. 🌟 Key Factors in the Chosen Scheme: The chosen scheme focused on maximising the use of the existing building. The goal was to elevate and improve the fabric to near Passivhaus levels. The design prioritised creating spacious and varied living spaces, offering breathtaking views across the fields to the south. ☀️ Client-Centric Priorities: Daylighting and indoor air quality took centre stage, addressing the client's concerns stemming from a lack of both in the existing structure. 🌿 A Sustainable Solution Unveiled: The Cowshed boasts an airtight, highly insulated building envelope, complemented by high-performance windows, MVHR, and a heat pump. This innovative collaboration between GO'C and SuttonBeresCuller transformed a disused gas station into a vibrant community hub in Seattle. Key Features: Sustainable Transformation: The project prioritized green space, featuring a 3,000-square-foot park and a 1,000-square-foot rooftop terrace with drought-tolerant landscaping and solar panels. Community Connection: The design cleverly integrates a 1,500-square-foot building with an open-air courtyard, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces and fostering community gatherings. Adaptive Reuse: The design subtly references the site's gas station history through details like painted siding and divided windows while creating a space dedicated to art and civic engagement. Flexible Functionality: The main gallery space boasts a pivoting window that can transform into a cafe window, and operable doors on three sides allow the courtyard to become an extension of the gallery.
