INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR PLAY Play opens up a whole world of possibilities. That’s why agencies got together and successfully called on the United Nations General Assembly to adopt an annual International Day of Play, on the 11th of June. We did this because we believe every child can reach their full potential, with the time, space and access to play. It’s time to put play back on the agenda. On this day, and every day. PLAY IS NEVER JUST PLAY Play is a fundamental right; it builds resilience, instils confidence and helps children develop. But children need time to play. That’s where we need policies, training and funding to get play integrated into education and community settings. Play heals through learning, life skills and psychosocial well-being. That’s why there must be investment into diverse, inclusive and safe play spaces, extending access to all, especially the most vulnerable and marginalised children. There are so many reasons we should all be celebrating the power of play. #InternationalDayOfPlay #ToyLibraries #EarlyEd #EarlyChildhood #Play #Children #Heals #Learning

https://lnkd.in/gbEebuS9 Today is the 1st ever International Day of Play 💕This is one of my key drivers for doing what I do. There is still a long way to go but having this recognised today is a great step to seeing all children access this fundamental right across the world 🌍 and help everyone to understand it’s critical importance in education and at home. For the first-ever International Day of Play we wanted to say thank you to all our customers and clients who help to provide safe play areas for Children. Children have a right to play under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child 1989, yet around 70% of adults aren’t aware of this right. Help celebrate #dayofplay and raise awareness for safe play anywhere in the world. Play is crucial for children's learning, well-being, and development. Through play children practice roles and build skills such as concentration, learning, memory, and language. https://lnkd.in/e2K7Kbt2.

As Jiminy Cricket taught Pinocchio, just whistle when you are in doubt, let’s teach our young children that “when you are in trouble and don’t know right from wrong give a little whistle and let your conscience be your guide. When you make a mistake or feel like breaking a rule or work hard and don’t get the marks, give a little whistle and let your conscience be your guide.” Read the full blog: https://lnkd.in/dhu_SpH4 #earlychildhood #earlychildhoodteacher #earlychildhoodlearning #parentingtips #parentslife #parentingsupport #earlychildhoodeducator #blog #educationblog

It would be very helpful to check in with your children, even though it may seem like they are enjoying being out of school. Not all children enjoy this time, or so much time away from school. #parenting #parents #children #child #students #school #winterbreak #teacher #educators #mom #dad #friends #cjbehaviorcoaching

Suburbs or city - what impact does each have on children's wellbeing? While this article points to gardenless living as a contributing factor to the poor uptake of children's play, Leslie Kern also points out in her book Feminist City that the suburbs aren't much good either. Too often suburbs are designed in a way that limits opportunities for children and their families to access to public facilities safely and independently, and the social interaction that comes with the public realm. Suburbs, like high rise, are a modern tradition. Somewhere in between might be the happy place - but Tim Gill points out in Urban Playground (https://lnkd.in/gtuZMMEE), the research seems a bit unclear on what is best for children from a public/private play space point of view. What insights do people have in the Australian context?

I’m one of the commissioners for this. I’m happy to have been chosen by Paul Lindley OBE and Anne Longfield CBE, and think it could make a real difference. But I’m sad that it’s some this. Playing freely is the most natural way for children to learn and grow, and to feel what it’s like to be an active, engaged human being. It should be so easy. But we adults have made it so hard.
