$30K Harley Road Glide: Love It or Hate It? Just spent 4 days riding a Harley 117 Road Glide through the scenic back roads of Alabama and Tennessee. Sounds dreamy, right? Well… not so much. Here’s what went wrong: -Front brakes pulse as you slow down -Back brakes fail, then grab all of a sudden -Clutch feels gritty, like there's gravel in it -Thin rotors likely warped—poor heat dissipation For $30,000, you’d expect a flawless ride. But honestly? I’d rather have taken the bus. Now, let’s talk about your products. Are you delivering consistent quality to your customers? Are the details dialed in to meet expectations every time? I was asked to justify my post where I expressed my sentiment that it was unlikely that Arctic Cat would ever restart production. Here is my reasoning. There is quite a bit of Kitty inventory out in the field. If management was to announce that the division was shutting down, then all of those vehicles sitting on showrooms would instantly be harder to retail (who wants to purchase a vehicle when there might not be any parts/technical support)? In many states, powersports vehicles are covered under motor vehicle franchise laws. In these areas, when a dealer terminates a franchise, the OE often has to repurchase dealer inventory (including parts, vehicles, signs, tools, etc.). Textron is well capitalized, they have deep pockets, and it's not like the mother ship is going out of business. They'd have to fund most of those dealer repos. That could add up to some real cash. And, AC is laying off staff. Talent is tough to find, and institutional knowledge can be hard to replace. Those employees are going to find other employment, they will move on. They won't walk back in once someone turns the lights back on. My expectation is that Arctic Cat will do all it can to move unsold stock between now and next spring. Early in 2025, they will either announce that the restart of the assembly line will be pushed back until fall, or more likely that it will just never start again. These are public companies, not nonprofits. The most important thing to most of them is their share price. In the 21st century, vanity projects are not to be tolerated. I've long said that there are too many players in the powersports industry. The field is too crowded and there are too many brands that don't generate enough showroom revenues to remain viable. In my opinion, I'd never pick up a new brand that didn't generate at least 100 retail sales a year (and that's my floor). I doubt there were many AC dealers who exceeded that threshold.
