We were excited to connect local college students with Brooklyn-based startups as part of our Make It in Brooklyn: Open Office initiative. Students from LIU Brooklyn, NYU Tandon School of Engineering, Brooklyn Law School, and St. Francis College toured the offices of these innovative startups: • Vycarb, a startup at the forefront of decentralized carbon removal technology at Brooklyn Navy Yard • Blue Ridge Labs, Robin Hood’s innovation lab focused on tech-driven solutions for low-income New Yorkers • Makelab, an on-demand 3D printing service • NineDot Energy, creating equitable urban energy grids and storage solutions By connecting students with entrepreneurs and breakthrough technologies, our Open Office program nurtures the next generation of innovators, strengthening Brooklyn's position as a world-class tech hub and pipeline for talent. The "design economy" -- wherein value is largely created by those employed in design roles -- is in full swing. You can see this writ large in just about every industry, from consumer electronics to IT and apps, to energy, automotive, healthcare, and even the marketing and ads in those industries. Every time you curse at your HR or healthcare provider's app for being clunky, it's because it likely wasn't designed well...and hence conveys less value to you. Mid-sized cities are the real innovation heroes. Silicon Valley got too comfortable. NYC got too expensive. Boston got too exclusive. While everyone chases the coastal dream, smart innovators are quietly building ecosystems in places most people can't pronounce. ▶️ Chattanooga doesn't just have an incredible aquarium. It's a 124% startup growth machine. ▶️ Des Moines isn't just great farmers markets. It's also a fintech playground. ▶️ Madison isn't just a state capital. It's a talent retention powerhouse. The future of innovation doesn't look like corporate HQ. It looks like your hometown coffee shop. Remote work shattered geographic constraints. Talent follows opportunity, not zip codes. Your move, ecosystem builders. Dive deeper with this month's the ecosystem builder's edge newsletter: https://lnkd.in/eb4FaFgA #InnovationEcosystem #FutureofWork #StartupEcosystem

Do Hardware Startups need good design? (Part 2) I always wondered if there was a data-driven way to evaluate if or if-not there is value in design for startups. Mainly I asked myself the question: Do Hardware Startups need Good Design? So I set out on a little journey to see what the data says. In Part 2 of this series, I looked to see if there is a link between Good Design and a successful Kickstarter campaign Surprisingly, the data is pretty strong here! Stay tuned for Part 3. 🚀 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗟𝗮𝗯: The Future of Co-Working for Life Science Startups 🚀 In the rapidly evolving world of life sciences, flexible workspaces are transforming how startups innovate—but the concept of co-working takes on a whole new dimension when applied to a laboratory environment. Enter the Life Science Factory in 𝗚𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗻, Germany, a pioneering space designed to empower biotech startups with the tools and environment they need to bring their groundbreaking ideas to life. Spanning 3,300 square meters, the Life Science Factory offers state-of-the-art laboratories, open offices, and a prototyping workshop, all under one roof. This cutting-edge infrastructure is more than just a space—it's an ecosystem designed to foster collaboration, accelerate innovation, and support the unique needs of life science entrepreneurs. With flexible lab and office spaces, startups can scale their operations as they grow, while access to the latest technologies and equipment ensures they stay at the forefront of scientific discovery. For biotech startups, this environment is a game-changer. It eliminates the traditional barriers to entry—like high upfront costs and limited access to advanced lab facilities—allowing visionary founders to focus on what they do best: innovating. The Life Science Factory doesn’t just provide space; it provides a community of like-minded innovators, a place where ideas can be shared, and partnerships can be formed. In an industry where time, precision, and innovation are crucial, having access to a facility like the Life Science Factory can be the difference between an idea that stays on the shelf and one that changes the world.
