Happy International Women’s Day! 🌟 Inclusion for me is not merely about inviting women to the table. It’s about setting the table together, where every voice matters, and every contribution is celebrated. Today, we don’t just want a seat; we want to cook up change and savor the fruits of our labor. Ladies, let’s not wait for opportunities to be handed to us on a silver platter. Instead, let’s continue forge our path—a path that leads to empowerment, influence, and boundless possibilities. Our God-given abilities are our secret weapons, and we wield them with grace and determination. Remember this: “God is within her; she will not fail.” So,let’s rise, let’s continue to lead, and let’s leave an indelible mark on this world. Together, we’ll create a symphony of success—a harmonious blend of strength, resilience, and unwavering faith. Happy International Women’s Day! 🌹💪✨

🚀Thrilled to announce a monumental stride in boardroom diversity with the launch of #ALBEI in Australia🚀 The official launch of the Australian LGBTQ+ Board & Executive Inclusion (ALBEI) - the first initiative to improve #LGBTQ+ Corporate Board Representation in Australia is momentous. Congrats @Mark Baxter #DavidAnthony David Brine MAICD 🌈Lesley Traverso for taking the matter into your expert hands and getting to this point. ALBEI is changing the narrative with partners like the Australian Institute of Company Directors. ALBEI's careful analysis of ASX 200 companies, including LGBTQ+ leaders, shows that the journey is only starting. Back in 2021, only a handful of Fortune 500 included #LGBTQ+ people in their definition of diversity, and only 25 LGBTQ+ people had seats in these companies. No company had thought to update their diversity policies to include LGBTQ+ individuals since they were written, and nobody had tracked this aspect of diversity in the US. Shortly after, Nasdaq, of its own volution, required LGBTQ+ diversity disclosure, showcasing the lack of representation on the exchange. So, the Association of LGBTQ+ Corporate Directors took up the challenge in the US. In 2024, this is now a global effort with our friends at LGBTQ Corporate Directors Canada and the Australian LGBTQ+ Board & Executive Inclusion (ALBEI). Hoping the UK will soon launch a similar initiative. Let's continue championing change, sharing our stories, and inspiring action. Because when we bring our true selves to leadership, we don't just change boardrooms; we change the world. 🏳️🌈Congratulations, Mark & team, a great vehicle for change. long-live ALBEI! 🏳️🌈 #BoardDiversity #Inclusion #ALBEI #Leadership #GlobalUnity #ChangeMakers Jane Griffith Adena Friedman Queenie Chan Julia Hoggett NACD (National Association of Corporate Directors) Australian Institute of Company Directors Private Directors Association® Mark Bonham United Nations Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative Open For Business Colorful Capital Betsy Bernard Chiqui Cartagena
We're excited to be officially launching Australian LGBTQ+ Board & Executive Inclusion (ALBEI) this evening in Sydney, in the lead up to the Mardi Gras parade weekend. On this International Women's Day, I'm reflecting on my journey of inclusion and the profound impact of supportive colleagues, while also acknowledging the challenges faced as a woman from my background. Few years ago, I joined a Dutch organization as the only non-Dutch speaking person of color in my team. Initially, I felt out of place and small, struggling to adapt to a new culture and way of working. Apart from this my biggest challenge believe it or not was that MS office had Dutch language setting! and it did many tricky things with spell checks. However, amidst these new challenges, few of my colleagues stood out as a beacon of encouragement Max van der ZwaagRolf WieringaLaura Postma - Maes When one of my colleague learned I was preparing for inburgering, she went out of her way to make me feel welcome. From bringing candies to encourage my learning to encouraging me to have coffee chats in Dutch, she not only helped me navigate the language but also embraced me as part of the team. Yet, alongside the support, I encountered colleagues with their Dutch directness who got a nudge back from a no nonsense Mumbaite😊. It was a journey of asserting myself and standing firm on my beliefs, even when faced with resistance. Having said that I feel everyone tried their best to be inclusive in ways known best to each. Inclusion goes beyond corporate programs; it's about caring for those who may not feel at ease, and it's about recognizing and respecting the strength and diversity of women from all backgrounds. My journey tested my resilience, from learning the language to standing my ground in bringing my whole self at work. As HR and DEI leaders, let's remember that fostering inclusion is not just a checkbox—it's about creating a culture where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute their best selves, regardless of background or gender or experiences . A big shout out to Annemieke Kaasjager who is a role model for ‘inspire inclusion’ who inspired inclusion every step of the way in my journey. 🌟 #InspireInclusion #InternationalWomensDay #DiversityandInclusion #HRLeadership

🏳️🌈 Why are companies dropping their support and sponsorship for Copenhagen Pride? 🏳️🌈 Today is the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT)… which got me into reflecting mode! As a Maersk employee and a volunteer within the Human Rights team at Copenhagen Pride, I’ve closely witnessed the recent events concerning sponsorship and support. While I have reservations about the communication approach and some decisions taken by Copenhagen Pride — certainly, there’s room for a firmer stance — the reasoning some companies have cited for withdrawing their funding strikes a dissonant chord with me. It’s crucial to understand that calling Copenhagen Pride "too political" is a fundamental misinterpretation of its core mission. Pride, inherently, is political and about advocating for equality and human rights. It's a stance that should be championed, not shunned as overly political. The notion that an organization devoted to human rights should downplay its advocacy to appease corporate comfort is not only disappointing but also contradictory to the values of inclusion and respect. To the companies rethinking their support: disengaging may be your choice, but criticizing the moral compass of a human rights advocate as justification reveals a deeper disconnect. You don't ask other societal champions to mute their missions, so why should Copenhagen Pride? To Copenhagen Pride: Now more than ever, it's essential to focus on the core values of your organization. The work you do is crucial, continue to fight for human rights for EVERYONE, stand firm in your beliefs, and lead with courage. The path of advocacy is never easy, but it is always necessary. Let’s not dilute the messages that need to be heard. Instead, let’s stand firm, engage in constructive dialogue, and move forward with integrity. You can choose to support or not, but let's keep critiques constructive and missions clear. #CopenhagenPride #HumanRights #PrideMonth #Inclusion #Denmark #IDAHOBIT

Connections and supporting workplace D&I kōrero beside these wāhine toa 🙏🏻 - Be open - Identify, acknowledge and address D&I fatigue at your place - Seek ways to do better - Be better - Make your ‘line in the sand’ clear - Your people are your taonga - Share and support other orgs
It was so much fun representing Waihanga Ara Rau and Belonging Club at Whiria Ngā Kaha Diversity Works New Zealand Conference last week! Great kōrero about the importance of knowing yourself, building connections, working with employee network groups, and having clear boundaries with Kendall Farmer and José Taiapa. You were a joy to share the stage with. So many learnings but, as always, the biggest benefit of getting together at events like this was connecting, feeling supported and supporting others, and coming up with ways to work together. #belonging #equity #diversity #inclusion #wellbeing

ABOUT THIS WEEK | Harmony Week/Day (Australia) & International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (IDERD)(Global) In a week where the rest of the world acknowledges the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, Australia celebrates ‘Harmony Week/Day.’ 🤔 According to gov.au, “Harmony Week is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.“ A great initiative, but reframing the day (and subsequent discussions) not only hinders our journey towards creating an equitable and inclusive society- but also harms it. HERE’S WHY Choosing this celebration the same day as IDERD (whether intentional or not) shifts attention and discussions away from racism, and sweeps it under the rug- as if it doesn’t exist. In doing so, Harmony week de-centres and de-prioritises the voices of marginalised groups that are telling us about the systemic barriers that exist. Instead, this day asks them to quite literally bring something “more palatable,” to the table - often in the form of food from their cultural background. 🍽️ This would not be the first time Australia has shied away from its history of racism and instead ‘rebranded,’ it as a day of celebration. Thus making anyone who questioned the celebration seem angry, anti- harmony, anti-nationalist, and un-Australian. I think there’s a specific term for this tactic, but I digress… CONSIDER THIS: 🌟 We don’t have to choose one or the other. 🌟We can celebrate this country’s rich diaspora AND acknowledge that racism (still) occurs. 🌟We can love a country and acknowledge there are areas of improvement. As my dear friend and colleague Dr Virginia Mapedzahama, PhD says, “people want the rhythm without the blues.” 🎶 But that’s not how it works. In the infamous words of a childhood favourite, 'Porque no los dos?' 🌮 🤷🏽♀️ CALL TO ACTION: This year, this week, and going forward, I encourage you to do both: 1. Celebrate the diversity of your workplace (and of this country); AND 2. Acknowledge and address the history and the legacy of racism that continues today. We cannot foster a sense of inclusion and belonging if we pick and choose what aspects (and consequences) of diversity we’re more comfortable with. That’s not inclusion; that’s DISCRIMINATION. Kinda defeats the purpose of the day, doesn’t it? When we know better, we can do better. …and now you know. ☺️ For more information on the history of both days, please refer to Australian Human Rights Commission info sheet: https://lnkd.in/geuFtiSJ Dr Virginia Mapedzahama, PhD Dr Jane O'Leary Lisa Annese Sapphire Parsons Darshana Parekh Joanna Abraham Jae Spann #IDERD #IDERD2024 #HarmonyWeek #HarmonyDay #RacialDiscrimination #Inclusion #Diversity #Equity
