Despite ongoing progress, homophobia, biphobia, interphobia and transphobia are still barriers to accessing sexual and reproductive health services. Healthcare that is affirming, free from discrimination and prejudice is a human right. This IDAHOBIT you can make your service more inclusive by: 🌈 Ask patients what words they prefer for their body parts and use their pronouns. 🌈 Degender language, eg ‘people with a cervix’ rather than ‘women’. 🌈 Practice trauma informed care. Many LGBTQIA+ people have experienced trauma in healthcare settings. 🌈 Train your staff on gender and sexual diversity and inclusive care. 🌈Display pride posters and LGBTQIA+ community flyers in waiting areas. 🌈Update your forms to use inclusive language, eg. add a write in option for gender, instead of just ‘male’ and ‘female’. And if you're looking to support LGBTQI+ migrants, refugees and asylum seekers consider following the Forcibly Displaced People Network Ltd to support Australia's national voice for LGBTQI+ people experiencing forced displacement. All people, regardless of gender, sexuality or nationality, deserve to feel safe and supported. #IDAHOBIT #InternationalDayAgainstHomopobiaBiphobiaInterphobiaAndTransphobia

It is Pride month and on Saturday 1st of June MSF Greece - Médecins Sans Frontières Greece had our Annual General Assembly (GA). For the ones who are not familiar, MSF has a democratic structure and runs as an association in every country. The GA is the highest governance body in the organisation. We are #proud that we passed a motion to strengthen the work that Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) does with LGBTQIA+ persons. We recognise the barriers, both internal and external, and we ask to do even more than what the organisation already does to ensure we provide inclusive health care and support everyone who faces violence and discrimination because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. Learn more about what MSF already does for LGBTQIA+ inclusive care here: https://lnkd.in/eJfpKi7N https://lnkd.in/eHv_yTfk https://lnkd.in/ek-GkZsu #LGBTQIA+ #InclusiveHealthCare #PrideMonth #Humanitarian

Freedom of Speech and Peaceful Assembly in Moldova: What's Happening in Practice? 🇲🇩 We’re continuing to share insights from our new “Analysis of Moldovan Legislation on SOGI and HIV”. Since 2008, Moldova has had a law guaranteeing everyone the right to peaceful assembly. Starting in 2013, the LGBT community has exercised this right, with events like Moldova Pride 🏳️🌈 However, in practice, there are many obstacles. LGBT events often require heavy police protection due to threats of violence from anti-LGBT groups. For example, the Moldova Pride March in June 2023 took place under strict police security but still managed to gather around 500 participants 🎉 In 2024, things were calmer, though protests continued. Despite the law, violence remains a real threat, and LGBT people face challenges in exercising their right to peaceful assembly 💔 Want to know more about freedom of speech and assembly in Moldova? 30 years ago, 179 countries committed to a strong agenda on SRHR, again emphasized in the SDGs at the International Conference on Population and Development. This agenda remains unrealized for most young people, and girls especially. Now is the time to reorient our priorities; placing adolescent rights and voices at the heart of renewed action. Read our commentary in The Lancet here, together with colleagues from United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), UNICEF & World Health Organization: https://lnkd.in/ebu-nftr (free to access - just need to sign in or create an account). #adolescentgirls #adolescentrights #icpd30

Côte d’Ivoire is a trailblazer in the fight against gender-based violence (GBV) and advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR)! Despite Côte d’Ivoire’s constitution condemning discrimination and violence against women and guaranteeing fair trials, access to information, freedom of expression, and freedom of conscience, girls and women remain disadvantaged. EngenderHealth is addressing this problem at the deepest levels through our Partnering to Advance SRHR and Eliminate GBV in West and Central Africa Project. We are working with activists, youth-led organizations, and youth serving groups and institutions to enhance advocacy efforts to improve law accountability, strengthen standards and guidelines for GBV and SRHR, and increase awareness and involvement amongst women, girls and young people. This year, as part of the global #16DaysofActivism campaign against GBV, Côte d’Ivoire is ramping up its efforts to raise awareness and continue the drive for change, helping pave the way towards a violence-free world where girls and women can exercise their full SRHR.
