One of the privileges of leading DFN is being able to connect friends with opportunities to see the world, and expand their understanding. We regularly host trips to visit our partners in India so others can see first-hand the impact being made in the lives of real people - and begin to understand how their support makes a difference. Our director Jacque recently wrote some thoughts about this on our blog - be sure to read to understand how vision trips with partner organizations make such a difference. https://lnkd.in/ev9J4JUf

UPDATE/NOTE: An expert who makes a living in that country out of understanding human traits, attitudinal dispositions, personality traits advised me not to waste any energy/time on subjects like this because this is how things have been for decades - may be even for centuries - in that country. It is virtually impossible to change the system, the people, the decision-makers. In other words, the advice was don't waste your time, give up on them, because they won't change. I pondered over it, found the advice reasonable and made a determination that I should not bother my mind about stuff like AQI levels in India. ================================================= The Air Quality of Delhi and the adjoining cities (called NCR - National Capital Region) continues to be horrible. It seems people that are responsible and accountable for tackling such menacing situations have given up and left to nature and/or some divine power to deal with it. Nobody seems to be bothered that old, young, rich, poor, powerful, non-powerful alike, everyone is getting badly impacted by such noxious air quality continuing for days on end. "बढ़ता वायु प्रदूषण दिल की बीमारियों के खतरे बढ़ा रहा है, हवा में मौजूद प्रदूषक तत्व दिल की लय-ताल बिगाड़ रहे हैं |" ( स्रोत: हिंदी समाचार पत्र जागरण: https://lnkd.in/gDPw4YYE) NOTE: All the areas appearing grey-black and dark blue in the pictures are the areas that are witnessing horrible air quality. The AQI numbers for the four cities are in the range of 440-500. Since humans seem to have failed, the populace probably needs to turn to the divine powers to intervene and resolve this gas chamber like existence (and gradually but surely hastening towards ruination of health) of the hapless populace! Are the divine powers that be, listening? #india #delhincr #airqualityindex #airpollution #NCR #healthissues #pulmonarydiseases #severeairquality #ndtv #indiatoday #TOI #Jagran

NATERA 2024 was last week, and it was our BEST CONFERENCE EVER! But, don't take it from us - check out this quote from an attendee! "Just back from the 2024 NATERA Conference in Charleston. And if you missed it, well . . you missed a great deal! I've been to several NATERA Conferences as well as dozens of other conferences in my lengthy career. I can honestly state that this was the most quality, jam-packed lineup of speakers and 'spot on' topics of any conference I have ever attended! If you were absent - you missed an opportunity to improve your ROI's. You'll notice the plural tense. I took away extremely good ways to not only improve operational ROI, but . . also positively impact the human ROI for all of our team members. I can't recall a two-day event where I benefited so much - as will so many others from what I have learned and plan to put to use. I didn't just "spend time"; I invested it! And I have no doubt that the contacts I made will come in handy in the months to come in ways I can't begin to imagine now. The next conference is already on my calendar!" Touch:- The word is very famous in the professional world, like Keep in touch etc. But How much? How frequent? Till now not clear… people who meet very frequently, sometimes irritates (negative impact of keep in touch). In India, where population is very high and people meet several people every day, there are many chances when people can’t remember many people… The culture of visiting cards is also vanishing day by day… So, it is important to use the touches properly, elegantly, professionally.

As the Chief Guest at this gala event by Magic Bus India Foundation, I was able to convey the message that the growth of the nation is a function of how deeply we understand its youth, especially the ones belonging to conventionally underprivileged backgrounds. The message could reach the minds of the audience, because Magic Bus has been trying to do the same. Such partners help create a strong ecosystem focused on ending unemployment. Government of India is building an ecosystem of every entity working towards ending unemployment. If you are not yet a part of it, DM Dayal Kangne to know more. Punith B.S P.S. ignore the mistake in the name, designation.

15 November 2019: I moved to Sweden. A self-reflection 5 winters later. Leaving the tropics for Sweden’s dark winters reshaped me in ways I could not predict. Winter here isn’t just a season. It’s a force. Both brutal and beautiful. An old lover, familiar but distant. Yet in the darkness, I found resilience. Sweden transformed me: I learned to embrace the quiet. Rewire my pace and slow down. Appreciate “lagom”—just enough. Now I find peace in the stillness: In the lack of small talk. In the lack of constant chatter. In the lack of presence of people. The challenges were real: Moving. Isolation. Unemployment. But each hurdle gave me courage. It pushed me to become an entrepreneur. Friendships here grow like the seasons. Slow and deep. Facebook groups become the hunt for “your” crowd. Sometimes you meet people who feel like home. Other times, it’s a long, fragile search. Sweden didn’t just give me a new address. It gave me a new perspective. A new way of being. Somewhere in this journey, I found a “home” I carry within. To anyone stepping into the unknown: It’s tough but it transforms you. You find strengths you never knew you had. P.S. Have you ever lived abroad? 💭 P.S.S. Want the whole story? Subscribe to my newsletter and get it tomorrow. https://lnkd.in/geHfqDeW

𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐥𝐮𝐞! 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫? Sometimes I really wonder about celebrities, be it in cinema, sports, or the arts. It baffles me. Some individuals work incredibly hard to get where they are, excelling in their fields, earning fame, and building fortunes through their fan followings. Their popularity often stems from stellar performances or past laurels. Fair enough. But then, many of these celebrities choose to move abroad, for a better quality of life, anonymity, or the "normalcy" they want for their families. And why not? They can afford it. They have earned their choices. This reminds me of NRIs and OCIs who often ride two boats. They make the most of what each country offers, cheaper education here, earning abroad, investing in India, buying property because it’s affordable, and sometimes funding a social enterprise or foundation, employing a few others. Their contributions to "nation-building" often feel small compared to the wealth they generate. Then one might ask, why should they choose one over the other? Expats do it too (at the risk of generalizing). India is a land of opportunity, a favorable destination for making good money, living comfortably, and even finding creative inspiration. William Dalrymple, celebrated for his works on Indian history and often raving about the country, left quietly when COVID hit, citing our suspect infrastructure. The Brits before him looted and left too, but at least they were clear about their intentions. They expanded their empire and shaped history in the process. Meanwhile, those of us who stay here as citizens dig in our heels. We protest, we vote, we push for change. We navigate broken systems, live with the challenges, and embrace the complexities of this country because this is home. We take the good with the bad. But what about our modern celebrities and NRIs? Are we in this together? Or are they simply using the system while it works for them? Perhaps, it’s not a black-and-white issue. Maybe looking out for individual goals is just the way of the world. People with privilege exercise their choices, and those without it keep things running. But no matter how often India and those who stay here get used, we stick together. #Not meant to stir a controversy here... just a thought. What do you think? Are we part of the same story?
