About us
Bridge India is a progressive non-profit think tank dedicated to discourse on public policy. Sign up to our newsletter: https://bridgeindia.substack.com/. India represents an ancient civilisation, united by a shared history and sustained by a pluralist democracy. The idea of India is one that is inclusive, secular, and with a Constitution that provides for the vast diversity of its composite culture. The idea of India is the idea of embracing the many. India’s national identity has been built on unity in diversity, and it has long celebrated the commonality of major differences amongst its people. It offers many truths, each of which give shape and substance to the idea of India. But the ‘India Story’ abroad is often presented through a narrow lens, be it focusing only on business and the economy, society or policy landscape. Given its diversity, everything about India, and its polar opposite, is true in unison. Bridge India seeks to highlight and celebrate this nuance, to help India-watchers understand India better.

"I shudder to think what my worldview would be like without the late master filmmaker Shyam Benegal. His films were my genesis to the constant evolving lens to life. His works made me ponder on the comfort of advantages versus the discomfort of disadvantages in society." 📣 Read more from Mohua Chinappa 🎙️ (Podcast Host) here: https://lnkd.in/e82iCD_g

Meeting HH Pope Francis was an incredibly humbling and inspiring experience. We discussed with his team on ‘Caring for the Earth and Empowering the Poor’. For sure, Christianity & Jainism has more similarities than differences! His warmth, humility, and deep spiritual presence are truly remarkable. This week’s Policy Watch focuses on India’s changing diplomatic posture toward China, in an article titled India’s China Challenge. On April 10, 2024, amid a polarised election campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi struck an unexpectedly conciliatory note on India-China relations in a Newsweek interview. After years of hardened rhetoric and border tensions—especially since the 2020 Galwan crisis—Modi’s call for “positive and constructive bilateral engagement” marked a potential shift toward stability. However, with over two decades of failed diplomatic rounds and continued troop deployments along the Himalayan frontier, the question remains: Can this new tone translate into lasting peace? India, aspiring for a $5 trillion economy, cannot afford a destabilising conflict with China. But persistent rumours of Chinese incursions and the looming specter of a China-Pakistan nexus pose strategic dilemmas. Bearing all of this in mind, how should India address the China question? The article is written by Dr. Abhinav Pandya from the Usanas Foundation.
