When working with my clients, Accountability is often one of the lowest scoring workplace inclusion factors. Accountability can make or break DEI efforts. But what does it mean? In its simplest term, accountability is a consequence of actions or decisions that we make. And while groups and institutions can be held accountable, the purest form of accountability is individual accountability. In the video linked below, my colleague Mitch makes the connection between individual accountability to justice which is being accountable societally. I’d love to hear your thoughts! Comment below. 👇
⚖️What does justice mean to you? ✔️How is accountability an important pillar of justice? 📓What role should your organization play at the intersection of justice and accountability? "Implementation is different from advocacy—advocacy gets you airborne; it’s implementation that lets you stick the landing. But to succeed, effective implementation must be just as relentless, just as fortified against resistance, and just as rooted in the local context and players as the most effective advocacy campaign." Fantastic report from the Center for Justice Innovation on an often under-looked topic: how we ensure successful implementation of justice reform legislation. As a field, we often struggle to find the right balance between being broad ("let the agencies figure it out") and prescriptive ("here are all the mechanics and rules" ) in our policy making. The result can yield unintended consequences. Lots of great recommendations for addressing this challenge including more funding to support implementation, better data reporting, and high-levels of vigilance, among others. My two cents in the report: center directly impacted people in policy development and implementation. Their expertise can help anticipate and address challenges of turning legislation into practice. And kudos to the CJI team: Courtney Bryan, Matt Watkins, Julian Adler, LCSW, Esq. and all others who worked on this.
A new publication from the Center for Justice Innovation highlighting the elements of strong, sustainable policy implementation: "Sticking the Landing"! From crafting your legislation to avoid obstacles to come, to ensuring the buy-in of the practitioners you need to make your policy real, to fighting for control of your narrative in the public square, we offer a brisk, practical guide to shepherding your idea from policy to practice—and changing systems and lives for the better. Many great thought partners on this emerging area of priority for our organization, including Virginia Bersch, Nancy Fishman, Rasmia Kirmani, John Koufos, gabriel sayegh, Samuel Schaeffer, and Joanna Weiss. https://lnkd.in/ePwmS3R6

Politics vs. Governance: Not the Same Game. We hear these terms a lot, but what's the difference? Politics: Imagine politicians as debaters - they argue for their ideas (like building a new park). Governance: Think of this as putting those ideas into action. It's about making the park a reality. Good ideas from politics need good governance to make them happen. And strong politicians need good results from governance to keep getting re-elected. Understanding both helps us be better citizens. We can hold politicians accountable for their ideas and support good governance that delivers results. What do you think? #letstalk #simplepolitics #governance #politics

Over the next few weeks, @PolicyLink experts and guest partners will share enlightening insights in thought-provoking articles presented by the @Stanford Social Innovation Review. "We, the Nation: Governing for All," by PolicyLink’s Managing Director, Judith Dangerfield, explores the idea of a future where equal protection is at the core of our governance, laws reflect our values, and enforcement ensures justice for all. For over half a century, we've witnessed a democracy shackled by stagnation, partisan deadlock, and an inconsistent Supreme Court. It's time for change. We're not just defending democracy; we're founding a truly multiracial democracy that serves all. #GoverningForAll #MultiracialDemocracy https://lnkd.in/g4VBhqjr
