  • In Reliance Infrastructure Ltd v Shanghai Electric Group Co Ltd [2024] SGCA(I) 10, the Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal against the decision of the Singapore International Commercial Court (the “SICC”) in Reliance Infrastructure Limited v Shanghai Electric Group Co Ltd [2024] SGHC(1) 3 (the “Judgment”), and affirmed the SICC’s decision not to set aside an arbitral award.   • In Thangarajan Elanchezhian v Public Prosecutor [2024] SGHC 306, the General Division of the High Court dismissed the appellant’s appeal against conviction and sentence in relation to a single charge of outrage of modesty. The GDHC also provided guidance on a recommended approach for managing the questioning of complainants of sexual offences in court. Read more: go.gov.sg/2024sghc306

  • In DGJ v Ocean Tankers (Pte) Ltd (in liquidation) and another appeal [2024] SGCA 57, The Court of Appeal held that the assignment of claims against a company while that company was in judicial management, made with the purpose of asserting insolvency set-off when that company went into liquidation, was liable to be struck down on public policy grounds for subverting the regime of pari passu distribution among unsecured creditors in liquidation.   • In Masoud Rahimi bin Mehrzad v Public Prosecutor [2024] SGCA 56, the Court of Appeal summarily dismissed an application for the court’s permission to make a post-appeal application in a capital case.
