EV charging that takes place “away from home” at public, multifamily, and commercial facilities and with fleets generally results in higher demand and places more strain on the grid, creating a critical opportunity for load management. EV load management in non-residential contexts also offers potential value to address some of the largest pain points to EV charging deployment, including the cost of grid upgrades to support EV charging capacity needs and delays in charger energization timelines. Yet, this type of load management is still in the early stages of deployment and poses new challenges as non-residential sites that install charging are likely to have varying EV charging load management needs, abilities, and opportunities. I am looking forward to diving more into this topic on a panel with Zach Woogen from the Vehicle-Grid Integration Council, Lauren Kastner from ICF, and Devi Mohan from Con Edison at the Peak Load Management Alliance (@PLMAdr) EV Symposium in Chicago next week.
