Yet at the same time, suburban racial diversity, immigration, and poverty rates have surged. The Right to Suburbia investigates how marginalized communities in the suburbs of Washington, D.C.—one of the most intensely gentrifying metropolitan regions in the United States—have battled the uneven costs and benefits of redevelopment.   Willow Lung-Amam narrates the efforts of activists, community groups, and political leaders fighting for communities' "right to suburbia"—that is, their right to stay put and benefit from new neighborhood investments. Revealing the far-reaching impacts of state-led redevelopment, The Right to Suburbia shows how patterns of unequal, racialized development and displacement are being produced and reproduced in suburbs—and how communities are fighting back.

A national network of organizations revitalizing communities through public spaces, Reimagining the Civic Commons offers helpful information for libraries to connect their efforts to larger goals, as well as to the work of their neighbors. https://hubs.la/Q030qH130

The most effective solutions for addressing community harm often come from the residents and organizations within the community. However, decades of community disinvestment have resulted in limited access to the capital and resources required to support the programs that community experts suggest. Hence, the birth of ICJIA's Institute to Innovate (i2i). Executive Director Delrice Adams (#JusticeWarrior) views i2i as a social work approach involving intensive engagement. i2i focuses on supporting hyper-local grassroots organizations with little to no prior experience with grant funding and needs more infrastructure or back office to implement programs successfully. Absolutely brilliant news for those of us involved in all things community. As part of the Kings Speech it has been announced that The Community Right to Buy bids I have been involved in campaigning for as part of the We're Right Here campaign for is to be included in the new English Devolution Bill announced today. Lots of work to do to make that Bill as good as we want it needs to be. But definitely a big moment for all the areas I work in. This obviously impacts on my work at The Architectural Heritage Fund helping to protect and save heritage buildings for the good of the local community such as all of the great stuff happening at Stretford Public Hall and 100s of other fantastic organisations. It will support the work we are doing what the Heritage development trusts who are taking on the portfolio of buildings in their local areas to bring around significant community led regeneration and similarly the fantastic work being carried out through Platform Places. It will impact the co-ops and community groups, such as those I have been involved with through Coops UK and Stir to Action. Supporting organisations and communities to take on assets that help create spaces that help places thrive, often in the most deprived areas in the country. It will also impact on the work I have been doing around community health through my life as an acupuncturist. enabling more therapists to find space where they can provide affordable to find space where they can provide low cost therapy. The potential to support so many sectors heritage, arts, community, music, housing health and basically all the good things cannot be underestimated. There's obviously a long way to go lots of detail to get right but well done everyone on the campaign for helping get to this point.
