During my first few years as a consultant I was sitting with a client and she got really frustrated with an employee because she expected her to think beyond her role. It wasn’t a outrageous request. But that has to be communicated properly and the tools necessary to help the employee have to be in place. Here’s the article I wrote about it “What is happening when employees slack off” - https://lnkd.in/eHFcAPs Employee turnover is expensive. Hiring rockstars helps but it doesn’t completely solve the problem. To help, I distilled the latest research into a simple framework called M.A.T.C.H. that I tech in my C-Suite Positioning System. It helps to attract the A-players you want and retain them with minimal effot and investment from you. If you want to learn more about it then let me know and I’ll send you the link.

This is no joke: high employee turnover is extremely detrimental to the IT ecosystem. Personally, I feel happy when my friends tell me they are switching jobs and are excited about the new opportunities ahead. I have met all of these amazing people at meetups and events where I have seen them consistently go above and beyond their job requirements. Unfortunately, it is common to lose hope and become fatigued when very little technical and community impact is achieved. And I feel very sad; I will miss them, and the startup and technical community will once again lose momentum and trust. It took me a decade to understand how to build extremely successful technical teams and retain talent. We, as IT professionals, have a constant desire to solve big, complex problems and be part of companies that empower us to achieve the impossible and recognize our efforts. Companies willing to understand these unique characteristics of technical people enjoy the success that only a passionate workforce can attain: trust, ownership and responsibility, collaboration, constant improvement, empathy, and finally, frugality, because passion is more powerful than money or size. Please, have a sincere and effective conversation with your team and ask them what makes them happy. We can't afford to lose more great minds. What do you notice about my office non-traditional configuration? (my answer on the first comment)

Many leaders think IT outstaffing is just a way to fill talent gaps. However, there are hidden benefits that can elevate your projects beyond expectations. So, what are they? Outstaffed software engineers often have a wealth of experience across multiple industries. They bring fresh perspectives and innovative solutions drawn from various fields, which can ignite creativity and problem-solving within your team. Onboarding new team members can be a hurdle, but outstaffed developers come equipped with efficient workflows. Their familiarity with these processes means they can integrate smoothly into your projects, minimizing idle periods and contributing to your success from day one. When you outstaff, you're not just hiring individual talent—you're accessing a network of experts across different technologies and industries. This wisdom of crowds allows for consultation on related questions and challenges, ensuring more robust and well-informed solutions for your projects. By embracing these often-overlooked benefits, outstaffing transforms from a simple staffing solution into a powerful strategic move that can give your organization a competitive edge. #Software #Development #Outsourcing #IT #Outstaffing #Innovation #Talent

Only hiring engineers in your area? Here's why that's a mistake. - The best talent isn't always in your backyard. You can find very capable people who might be the perfect fit for your team in nearby cities or countries. - Diverse perspectives are proven to make teams more creative and effective. - Employees value flexibility and being able to live wherever they want is a big perk. - It's easier to respond to hiring peaks and respond faster when the market changes when you have a bigger talent pool. - The fastest engineering teams I've seen, are always distributed across several countries. - With Oyster it's easy to hire and pay people from across the globe, and still have them be part of your team just as if they were living in your city. Are you ready to start hiring globally?. Check out Oyster:

Your hiring strategy is a waste of money. And here is why! The tech industry is fiercely competitive, and the race to attract top talent comes with a hefty price tag. Did you know the average cost to hire a software developer can be more than $30,000? And that’s not even counting onboarding or turnover. And let’s not forget the time-to-hire: it takes an average of 5️⃣0️⃣ days to fill a technical role😱 But here’s the thing: what if you could avoid these expenses altogether? By partnering with a software development company, you can skip the recruitment headaches, reduce overhead costs, and get straight to building what matters. Instead of wasting months finding the right talent, you get instant access to a dedicated team of experts who are ready to dive into your projects—bringing experience, innovation, and efficiency to the table. Plus, with an outsourced team, you can cut your time-to-market by 3️⃣ 0️⃣ - 5️⃣ 0️⃣ %, giving you a head start on your competition. Need to scale up quickly or scale down after a big project? With a software partner, you get exactly the right team size when you need it—no more, no less. And let’s talk savings. On top of the $30K+ you save per hire, outsourcing can cut overall development costs by 2️⃣0️⃣ - 3️⃣ 0️⃣ %. You also avoid all those extra expenses—benefits, office space, long-term contracts... the list goes on. So, why burn resources on hiring when you could be scaling faster? Navigating High-Volume Recruitment Scaling up recruitment? Here are some challenges and tips from my experience at Uber, Wise, and TransferGo: 1️⃣ Scarcity of Talent: This is always the initial headache. But once you nail your employer brand and market approach, the talent finds you. 🎯 2️⃣ Building the Right Team: Ensure your team can scale up or down as needed. Do you have enough heads to handle the influx? And don’t forget to have a solid relationship with finance to plan ahead. 🤝💼 3️⃣ Seamless Onboarding: Often overlooked, but crucial. If you’re ramping up from 20 to 60 hires a month, ensure your onboarding, training, and IT logistics are ready. Can you order enough laptops? Do you have enough desks? 🖥️📝 4️⃣ Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with People Ops and IT. They are vital in ensuring everything runs smoothly for new hires. 🌐 Remember, high-volume hiring isn’t just about finding talent. It’s about being prepared for every step of the process. #TalentAcquisition #HighVolumeRecruitment #EmployerBrand #Onboarding #HR #RecruitmentChallenges
