Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a day to celebrate the contributions, talents, and resilience of people within the disability community. As someone who identifies as AuDHD, I can share that navigating the workforce as a neurodivergent person is a journey of continually learning, growth and change. Whether internal or external, our challenges help us discover the world and learn how to navigate it. In order to experience moments of triumph and self-discovery, we must continually persevere especially when it doesn't seem easy or even possible to keep going. Perseverance allows us to take our perspective and experiences and unlock our unique strengths and talents. One of the most transformative lessons I've learned is the importance of speaking up and owning who we are. On days like today, every time someone shares "Me too!" it helps to create a ripple effect, breaking down stigma and paving the way for greater understanding and inclusion for all. More voices, more stories, more visibility is needed — because that's how we change the world. To anyone out there who might be questioning their worth or feeling unseen: You Are Enough! Your differences are part of your strength and your light deserves to shine. Let's continue building a world where all abilities and perspectives are celebrated. #IDPD2024 #DisabilityInclusion #Neurodiversity #ADHD #Autism #InternationalDayofPersonsWithDisabilities

There is very limited awareness of the types of disabilities people have, live with, how it affects them and the people around them. That is why disability needs to be included in diversity and inclusion DEI/DEIB so there is real awareness, acceptance of people with disabilities in the workplace and society. #disabilityawareness #DEI #DEIB #disabilityinclusion #people #life #divetsityintheworkplace

December 3 is #InternationalDayofPersonswithDisabilities (IDPD). Every day, we celebrate our community's diversity and acknowledge the roles and achievements of every individual, regardless of their abilities. We also want to shed light on the fact that not all disabilities are physical or visible. Invisible disabilities exist such as learning disabilities, mental impairments and disorders, autism, and the list goes on. It's time to shatter the misconception that all disabilities can be seen and recognize that everyone's struggles are unique. At Entrust, we strive to create opportunities for growth where the individuals we support thrive and develop new skills. We are committed to supporting and advocating for their rights by placing their voices at the forefront of the decision-making process that affects their lives. #BreakingBarriers #Disability #EmbracingDiversity #InvisibleDisabilities

Shall we do a final Ableism in Action for the year? Why not! I recently watched a video of a training session where a non Autistic described Autism as a “diffability. Not a disability”. First up, I’d like to acknowledge all the amazing Autistic led businesses, Autistic advocates and Autistic People’s Organisations who are available to deliver Autistic led training. Aurora Autistic Consulting is one of those businesses. Secondly I would like to defend every Autistic person’s right to choose whether or not they identify as disabled. Many Autistic people strongly identify with the Social Model of Disability which states that there is nothing wrong with being disabled, but there is something very wrong with a world that does not properly support disabled people. Autism is a protected characteristic, and as such we are covered by the Equality Act and UNCRPD. Denying that being Autistic is a disability denies us basic Rights to reasonable adjustments, and access to benefits. It minimises the significant challenges we face, and cuts us off from the wider disability community. Disability is not a bad word. There is nothing wrong with being disabled. Using euphemisms and denying disability does not help us. Learning about our Rights because we are disabled and having them met does. #casualableism #everydayableism #autism #autistic #neurodiversity #neurodivergent #disabilityisnotabadword

It's International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). Open question for the community. Looking to 2025, as a person with disabilities, what do you want to see in the next year? For me, as a neurodivergent person with multiple non-apparent invisible disabilities including Autism, ADHD, and Complex PTSD, I would like to see more remote jobs, the elimination of bias and discrimination that hurt people with disabilities, for organizations to confront and address the bullying of people with disabilities in the workplace, for organizations to be more accessible and inclusive, and to see people with disabilities thrive and succeed at work. How about you? #disabilities #disabilityatwork #disabilityrights #IDPD #neurodiversity #neurodivergent #neurodiversityAtWork Image description: Blue background with white outline of a person with text International Day of People with Disability

This isn't our fault. As disabled people, we are constantly impacted by societal pressures. Disability is often misportrayed in the media/tv/film and there is a lack of true education on what it truly means to be disabled. While it's not our fault that these false narratives have been put on us, it is our responsibility to take action and strengthen our mindsets so we can live a happy, fulfilled life. It's important to become aware of your thoughts so you can manage the effect they have on your daily life. If you’re struggling and you feel that your thoughts are being overtaken by negative self doubt, I'm here to help! I've come up with a powerful analogy I share with my coaching clients to help them fully weed out their negative belief patterns. If you'd like me to share the analogy in my stories, comment YES! #Accessibility & #VideoDescription: Graphic with black background and white and blue text with the words that reads: Disabled people are 5x more likely to experience mental distress than people without disabilities. Disability in itself is not a barrier to participation, success, or a fulfilling life. What truly holds people back is discrimination and the societal obstacles that result from it. These obstacles can manifest as physical barriers, such as inaccessible buildings and transportation, as well as attitudinal barriers, like prejudice and misconceptions about the capabilities of individuals with disabilities. When society embraces inclusivity and accessibility, individuals with disabilities can thrive, contribute, and fully participate in all aspects of life. This means ensuring equal opportunities in education, employment, healthcare, and social activities. It also involves promoting understanding, respect, and acceptance of diverse abilities. By breaking down these barriers of discrimination and fostering an inclusive environment, we can create a world where disability is seen not as a limitation, but as a natural part of the human experience. Everyone deserves the chance to reach their potential, and it's our collective responsibility to ensure that no one is left behind due to discrimination. #disability #disabilityawareness #disabled #wheelchair #inclusion #autism #chronicillness #wheelchairlife #specialneeds #accessibility #love #chronicpain #invisibleillness #spoonie #autismawareness #disabilityadvocate #mentalhealth #cerebralpalsy #disabilityrights #disabilityinclusion #spinalcordinjury #downsyndrome #disabilities #disabilitypride #abilitynotdisability #disabilitylife #handicap #diversity #amputee #asd
