When selecting new innovation projects, some committees prize consensus — and thus end up funding only ideas whose success is plain to see, which is often an incremental innovation. Meanwhile, venture capitalists looking for the next big thing might do the opposite, picking projects on which they disagree. These types of project selection quandaries are reflected in new research, which models the effectiveness of common decision methods such as voting, scoring, and ranking. Scottish Funding Alert! Earlier this month, Glasgow City Innovation District (GCID) launched Glasgow’s first Venture Studio dedicated to developing innovation-driven enterprises, which will help take the city one step further. The GCID Venture Studio, in a pilot phase to 2025, will help Glasgow City-based companies develop new ideas, products, and business models into high-growth companies while supporting social innovation and community benefits.  Four pillars of activity have been designed to support the needs of Glasgow’s digital, tech, engineering, and creative sectors: challenge, make, innovate, and impact. Scottish Enterprise is partnering with the Venture Studio on the first call under the Challenge Pillar: Space Data for Industry (https://lnkd.in/e2PXerQS).  This call offers 100% grant funding up to £30,000 for Glasgow City-registered technology businesses selling or utilising innovative solutions that use space data to progress collaborations with existing or potential customers.
