“The approach to housing development highlighted in this case study is both innovative and critical in the context of climate change and resource scarcity. By integrating water-smart features into new homes in areas like Cambridge (one of the driest in the UK), the project exemplifies how urban planning can address the growing pressure on water resources. I think the Enabling Water Smart Communities Program is a forward-thinking initiative, providing valuable tools for developers to prioritise sustainability. This model should be widely adopted to meet housing targets without exacerbating environmental challenges.” - Christine Beardsell, Head of Content Marketing at CWP. Following the recent Scrutiny meeting, we are now preparing the next steps to be able to consult on our Proposed Submission Local Plan (Regulation 19.) We're taking the Proposed Submission Local Plan (Regulation 19) to Cabinet on Monday 19 August at 10am, in the King Charles Hall, Guildhall Winchester. If you would like to attend or speak at the meeting, please register in advance by 5pm on Tuesday 13 August on our website or by calling 01962 848 235. Feedback from previous consultation has been fundamental in shaping the plan to this stage; providing critical feedback and highlighting areas where further evidence has needed to be gathered. This has all been incorporated into this stage of the Local Plan Development. The Local Plan addresses some major challenges including: 🌳 Addressing the challenge of climate change head on, being instrumental in the council’s goal of being a carbon neutral district by 2030. It sets the highest standards possible for environmental design for homes and commercial development and making it attractive, safe and easy to walk, cycle and use other low carbon methods of transport 🏠 Recognising it’s harder for all ages and especially younger generations to find homes they can afford. There is no longer an expectation for developments to provide affordable homes – there will be a requirement. 🐟 Protecting the district’s chalk streams and rivers from nutrient pollution. Ensuring the delivery and timing of infrastructure for local communities where development is proposed. The proposed submission Local Plan ensures the district remains an attractive and successful place which supports the district’s economy and communities, whilst protecting the rich heritage, biodiversity 🐝 and landscape. https://lnkd.in/eQPrSMpE

#LatestInSustainabilityNews Wayne County has achieved a significant milestone, exceeding $100 million in Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing for energy-efficient projects. This achievement underscores the county’s strategic use of the PACE program to attract private capital for sustainable building initiatives, fostering both environmental stewardship and economic development. “As a cornerstone of our economic development efforts, we’ve prioritized sustainability and environmental responsibility,” said Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans. “Reaching this milestone reflects my administration’s commitment to building a greener future, recognizing that environmental sustainability is not just an option—it’s essential.” Lean & Green Michigan, the administrator of the state’s PACE program, has released several new Wayne County case studies showcasing the impact of these projects. The launch of WA's third Waterwise Action Plan (Kep Katitjin – Gabi Kaadadjan) marks an important milestone for the state's environmental sector and a significant step forward for environmental management. What stands out is the scale of impact since 2019: • 24 billion litres of water saved • 10,000+ trees planted • 300,000 waterwise plants established The program's expansion beyond the metropolitan area, coupled with its focus on urban greening and climate resilience, signals growing momentum in WA's environmental sector. This kind of integrated environmental planning creates ripples across multiple sectors - from urban development to conservation, water management to community engagement. It's a reminder of how interconnected our environmental challenges and solutions truly are. Looking forward to seeing how this initiative shapes WA's environmental landscape in the years ahead. https://lnkd.in/eyehsZ-v #WAEnvironment #WaterConservation #EnvironmentalJobs #SustainableWA

Managing #naturalassets will become increasingly important as organizations strive to deliver sustainable and affordable services. Like built assets, natural assets provide a service, incur costs, involve risks, and require thoughtful management. The #IIMM is an international framework for sustainable service delivery discussions and how to tell the story of balancing services, costs and risks. Being able to communicate the services provided for both natural and built assets is critical in communicating with stakeholders. NAMS Canada can support your organization with sustainable service delivery, ensuring a comprehensive and consistent approach that aligns with ISO standards and global best practices. NAMS Canada has been enabling asset managers for 10 years. We’re here to help. https://lnkd.in/gDFnNfu5
