"This holiday season, consumers nationwide upped their spending in stores and online, according to early data from Visa’s Retail Spending Monitor. Overall retail spending in the U.S. this holiday season increased by nearly 5% from 2023. Visa’s report reflects spending at retail merchants from the seven-week period following Nov. 1 across all payment methods. It excludes spending in some categories, such as autos, gasoline, restaurants and more, and is not adjusted for inflation. “The spending growth this holiday season portends continued consumer confidence in their own outlook — jobs, wage growth — and the broader economy going into 2025,” said Visa Chief Economist Wayne Best." 🇬🇧 Over Half of UK Shoppers are Going Global! New research from Nosto reveals that 52.5% of UK consumers have purchased from online stores abroad in the past year! ️ Here's what's driving this trend: - Younger generations are leading the charge: 67% of 35-44-year-olds, 64% of 25-34-year-olds, and 61% of 16-24-year-olds have shopped cross-border. - Fashion is king (and queen): 70% of products purchased overseas fall under fashion and accessories. - Price is a big motivator: Over half (53.4%) of respondents are looking for deals abroad due to rising prices at home. However, there are some hurdles: - Concerns about returns (49.75%) and product quality (46.8%) are top worries for cross-border shoppers. - Transparency builds trust: Nearly 69% of respondents say clear information on returns and taxes would make them more likely to buy from international stores. The takeaway for e-commerce businesses? Cater to the global shopper! Providing clear information on returns, and taxes, and offering local customer support can turn browsers into loyal international buyers. #ecommerce #crossbordershopping #ukretail #globalmarket *Graph showing what is likely to increase consumer trust in an ecommerce store based in another country.
