I am so proud to have been invited by Crowley to be the ship sponsor for Progress, the largest US built, Jones Act compliant LNG bunker barge. Progress is already living up to her name by enabling efficient and dependable LNG supply to fuel ships.
LNG is the lowest carbon fuel currently available to shipping at scale, emitting up to 23% less greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (well-to-wake) compared to very/ultra low sulphur fuel oil.
LNG, bio-LNG, and synthetic LNG, which are primarily liquefied methane, can all be supplied through the existing and expanding LNG infrastructure and gas grid.
Overall, we have the largest LNG bunkering network in the world
26 bunkering locations
12 countries
12 bunkering vessels
2000+ bunkering operations completed to date
This is backed by Shell’s global LNG business, which has a sizeable portfolio, extensive shipping and storage assets, and access to regasification plants.
Expanding access to cleaner energy is critical if we’re going to meet the needs of customers and society more broadly and I am proud to be a part of enabling this transition.
Yesterday, we proudly joined Shell to christen and celebrate Progress — the largest U.S.-built, Jones Act-compliant LNG bunker barge. Since its delivery, this 416-foot vessel has played a pivotal role in providing a consistent supply of LNG to ship operators at the Port of Savannah, expanding access to lower-emissions fuel.
Thank you to our partners, including the U.S. Coast Guard mariners and operations and design teams for driving innovation and progress toward a more sustainable future for the maritime industry.
What an inspiring story! George’s quick thinking and courage embody the true spirit of teamwork and community.
