It is risky to input this type of sensitive information into tools like ChatGPT, and while it didn’t affect the outcome in this example, the stakes are high. Additionally, there are data sovereignty issues and the risk of data being stored outside Australia, releasing it beyond the agency's control. Targeted AI, however, offers a real chance to lighten the heavy admin load weighing down law enforcement and government agencies. This admin burden can often contribute to attrition, as seen in police forces across the country. With AI solutions designed specifically for agency needs and trained on the expertise of seasoned investigators, tasks like preparing court-ready documents, such as protection orders, become much easier. We’ve seen this firsthand.
