For those who might not have seen it yet, I have attached the article that I have written for the March 2024 edition of Airline Business. It builds on observations made in earlier pieces in 2023. Whilst the industry, although not all of the airlines that it is made up of, will surpass pre pandemic levels of activity in 2024, there is little evidence of much heralded "building back better" at a company level or system wide. I would think that airlines would more efficiently load airplanes by starting the loading in the back of the plane and move forward. That would minimize the blockage of people getting in their seats. Also, load window seats then move inwards towards the aisle to keep people from having to repeatedly getting up to let others sit. This would be another way to minimize time spent loading and possibly fuel from being burned while waiting to depart. Just my Thoughts.

As the International Air Transport Association (IATA) northern hemisphere winds down and airlines reflect upon a challenging season, John Grant considers the impact on yields of a 4.3% increase on intra-European capacity this summer versus summer 2023 in his recent OAG blog. Using #OAGs airline schedules and airfare data, flight routes with more than 400,000 scheduled seats were identified to ascertain how increases in air capacity have affected average airlines. Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian apologized and offered frequent flyer miles to travelers for thousands of flight cancellations as the carrier struggled to recover from Friday’s globe-spanning IT outage, disruptions that sparked criticism from Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. The Atlanta-based airline canceled more than 4,600 flights from Friday through Sunday, more than any other airline, according to aviation data firm OAG.
