Another week another conferring of great minds at the 3rd conference of the Swiss #ImplementationScience Network (IMPACT) hosted in Geneva! As little as 14% of research in #healthcare is implemented, which may on average take up to 15 years! At the same time "low-value" practices are in place harming patients as well as the #environment. Implementation science adresses these issues - the Achilles' Heel: jumping to solutions! We need to get to the root cause through diagnostic evaluations of barriers and #ChooseWisely. (De)-implementation may also mean changing habitual #behaviors - a challenge we want to take on to reduce research waste and ensure high quality patient care. Thanks to the University Hospital Basel for supporting this, the Institute for Implementation Science in Health Care (IfIS) for a welcoming and inspiring first week and IMPACT (https://lnkd.in/eAXZn9sz) for a great conference!

Apropos of the FDA releasing its new #DEI guidance, have you heard of the Beacon of Hope initiative started by Novartis to address root causes of disparities in health and education? It's a 10-year collaboration initially with 26 Historically Black Colleges and Universities, including 4 #HBCU Medical Schools like Morehouse School of Medicine and Meharry Medical College, plus Merck, Sanofi, the National Medical Association, Coursera, the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, the Global Black Economic Forum, Advarra, VIRB, BeeKeeperAI, Amgen, and Alnylam. One of the most powerful strategies for increasing the effectiveness of research collaboration is investing in the collaboration for the sake of the collaboration, not for the sake of the outputs. #collaboration is a complex process and it takes time. Time working together builds trust. Trust is the key to effective collaboration. When there is trust it is easier to align. Alignment allows you to unlock the full #powerofcollaboration. This means genuinely working to help those you are collaborating with for the sake of helping them. It also means making the extra effort to structure your research outputs so that others trust what you have done and can reuse it.
