After two years of work, I'm excited to share that the first ever #WHO scoping review on the governance of the private sector in health across low- and middle-income countries is out. 🌟 Our primary goal was ambitious but essential: to systematically synthesize the evidence on approaches to govern the private health sector. This review is about more than mapping strategies; it’s about capturing what truly drives impactful #governance of mixed health systems and where countries are still facing challenges. 📝 We structured our review around three pivotal questions: 1) What approaches are currently adopted to govern the private health sector? 2) How effective are these approaches in various contexts? 3) What are the key enablers and barriers influencing these governance efforts? Our work aims to guide LMICs in aligning private sector involvement in health systems with public health goals, ultimately contributing to better health outcomes and more resilient systems to achieve #UHC. An amazing team effort with WHO and Oxford Policy Management! David Clarke Gabrielle Appleford Aya Thabet Louise Allen Catherine Goodman Mark Hellowell Sophie Witter Shuchi Srinivasan Excited to see how these findings will shape future governance efforts in the health sector! #HealthSystems #PrivateSector #Governance #LMICs #HealthPolicy #PublicHealth #UHC

Fascinating insights from WIRED Health event in London today 💡
Did you know that only 1 in 200 health appointments is scheduled through the NHS app? Wes Streeting MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, shed some light on the challenges and prospects of the UK's healthcare system at WIRED Health earlier today. Whereby powers numerous digital health platforms, and is witnessing remarkable growth from companies like Tebra, Unobravo, and Vittude, so this statistic caught me off guard. According to Wes Streeting, the UK struggles to embrace innovations, with one major obstacle being the system's fragmentation. He also discussed the future of partnerships between the private and public sectors, which reminded me of Peter Hames' recent post on "The hidden potential of UK health innovation," and which I highly recommend reading. It is evident that by fostering collaboration and ensuring technology addresses real needs, there's immense potential in the UK healthcare sector as well as incredible opportunities for companies operating in the healthcare space. #wiredhealth #digitalhealthinnovation #digitalhealth #nhs
