💊💊💊People are living longer and managing multiple long-term health conditions, which often means the number of medicines they take increases too. This can create a significant burden for patients as they try to manage multiple medicines (polypharmacy) at the same time. Polypharmacy increases the risk of adverse drug effects, including falls, cognitive impairment, and harmful drug interactions. 🧐Read Hadeel Mohamed's blog as she explores what we are doing in our region to tackle problematic polypharmacy and improve patient outcomes by making medication management safer: https://lnkd.in/eV3tUwYH #polypharmacy #medicinesafety #patientsafety #MedicationManagement #HealthManagement

Celebrating our work in 2024 💥 Working with our three Integrated Care Systems, we secured nearly £300,000 in funding for Yorkshire from NHS England’s Innovation for Healthcare Inequalities programme, which tackles healthcare disparities among underserved populations. 🤝 CVD - we have engaged 40 Primary Care Networks (PCNS) to run an education and training programme around CVD prevention for 620 participants. 💝 A total of 5,299 patients have benefitted from the MedTech Funding Mandate and the programme has saved the NHS approximately 1.36m (this national programme ensures patients and the NHS benefit from clinically effective and cost saving medical technologies faster). 📈 Propel@YH – Our flagship digital accelerator programme has supported 19 SMEs, with 9 coming from the Leeds region alone. 🚀 Find out more in our Impact Report: https://lnkd.in/gUfV27UG #YorkshireandHumber #BetterHealthOutcomes #EconomicGrowth #Partnership

This event is open to everyone—women, non-binary individuals, and male allies—who are committed to driving gender equity. We’ll ensure a diverse, inclusive platform where all voices are heard. 📆 Date: February 6th, 2025 ⌚ Time: 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM 📍 Location: Union Mills, 9 Dewsbury Road, Leeds, LS11 5DD Let’s shape the future together. 💡✨ 🔗 Register for your free place: https://lnkd.in/e6-iS7Sm #WomenInTech #WomenInInnovation #WomenInHealth #HealthTech #Innovation #Networking #Funding #GenderEquality Kimberley Frost Kathy Scott Answer Digital Ailsa Parker Barbara Conneely

A focus on 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 is incredibly important to us and our work at the Health Innovation Network. Following our recent publication 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 (InHIP) 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 I was delighted to co-chair this insightful roundtable event on addressing health inequalities through innovative approaches and partnerships, alongside Prof. Bola Owolabi, Our InHIP impact report (full details ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eJ3ewTXT) illustrates how we have been supporting local teams across the country to tackle healthcare inequalities through improving patient access to proven innovations in underserved populations across the Core20PLUS5 clinical areas of priority. Resulting in: 🔷 Over 34,000 individuals from underserved groups or deprived areas Reached. 🔷 Around 8,000 patients gaining access to an innovative product on a treatment pathway. 🔷 Over 1,200 project sites delivering a new pathway and/or innovation to patients. As well as hearing about some of the impact of the InHIP programme, there were some brilliant contributions from our attendees. My takeaways were: 🔶 We need to shift the narrative and widen the Return on Investment from health inequality programmes to also include social value, economic value and other benefits 🔶 We can’t be successful unless we start by engaging and empowering our communities (and ensuring that we have the right data sets to measure progress) 🔶 We need to be louder in our communication of ‘what works’, not just the specific pathway changes, but also the methodologies deployed which are highly transferable to other interventions 🔶 Real success will happen at place-level, and there needs to be an inclusive approach to local partnerships including local authorities, the VCSE sector, and communities themselves A huge thank you to all the speakers and participants for their valuable contributions. Let's continue to work together to ensure that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, can benefit from the very best in healthcare. 📢 Celebrating our work in 2024 Back in July, we delivered Health Innovation North with the three other northern health innovation networks: Health Innovation Manchester Health Innovation North East and North Cumbria and Health Innovation North West Coast 💡 Health Innovation Networks are known as the innovation arm of the NHS and part of our core remit is to support the uptake of health innovation into the NHS as fast as possible. At the event, we heard from a range of innovators who shared how their solutions are helping to solve problems that the NHS is currently facing - from reducing waiting lists to diagnosing conditions more quickly. The recently published government’s devolution white paper highlights the importance of empowering local places to drive economic growth and tackle inequalities. In Yorkshire and the Humber, we've seen first-hand how collaboration at a local level across health, economic development, and innovation, can create lasting impact. Our white paper showcases initiatives where devolved, place-based approaches are already improving outcomes and driving prosperity. For those working to bridge regional health and economic disparities, this is an exciting moment. Devolution isn’t just about governance, it’s about unleashing the potential of local places to thrive. As our region will be fully covered by devolved powers by May 2025—through the establishment of the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority—we are leading the way in demonstrating what devolution can achieve. We’re already seeing strong partnerships emerge: ✅ Combined Authorities working closely with Integrated Care Partnerships to meet the healthcare needs of diverse communities. ✅ New opportunities to test trailblazer schemes, with £10m initial allocations for Yorkshire’s three mayors — Tracy Brabin, Oliver Coppard, and David Skaith — to mobilise work, health, and skills support locally. 📊 This builds on recent government strategies, like Get Britain Working white paper, which puts tackling health related economic inactivity at the centre of national growth and renewal, and the Life Sciences Industrial Strategy, reinforcing the undeniable link between health and economic growth. Yorkshire and the Humber offers the perfect test bed to trial new powers and ways of working that can close health and economic disparities and make a real difference to government priorities. 🎧 Listen to our CEO and Chair of Health Innovation Network, Richard Stubbs, in the latest podcast from LED Confidential with Mike Spicer and David Marlow exploring how health and economic agendas are co-dependent in creating healthy and prosperous local communities https://lnkd.in/eRXNdQ4H "By having a thriving life sciences industry in our region, we not only bring high-value jobs but also give our patients and citizens faster access to transformational new technologies and innovations that help them stay healthier for longer." #Devolution #HealthAndProsperity #RegionalDevelopment #Innovation #EmpoweringLocalPlaces West Yorkshire Combined Authority South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority

Health and Climate Roundtable: Shaping a Sustainable Future 🌏 We're excited to announce that we're hosting an important roundtable discussion on the intersection of health and climate change in collaboration with the Yorkshire & Humber Climate Commission and Greener NHS North East and Yorkshire next month. This event brings together regional leaders, healthcare stakeholders, and sustainability experts—including Baroness Brown Julia King DBE FREng FRS FMedSci, Chair of the Climate Adaptation Committee, to address the critical role of the healthcare sector in tackling climate challenges. Why this matters: The link between climate and health is undeniable. Climate change impacts healthcare systems and disproportionately affects vulnerable communities, particularly in deprived areas. 🏥 Addressing these challenges isn't just about sustainability—it’s about reducing health inequalities and boosting economic productivity. 🌱 What to expect: ✅ Strengthening partnerships ✅ Showcasing best practices ✅ Supporting Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) to enhance their Green Plans ✅ Identifying actionable steps to integrate climate considerations into NHS strategies The outcomes from our discussions will shape a report with key recommendations and future actions - positioning Yorkshire & Humber as a leader in sustainable healthcare innovation. Together, let’s build a healthier, more sustainable future! 💚 Kimberley Frost Kathy Scott https://lnkd.in/ewhH9aHj

📢 Celebrating our work in 2024 As we are nearly at the end of 2024, we are reflecting on our work this year. 💡 As part of our role to assist in the identification of the best solutions for our health and care systems across the region, we help to demonstrate the benefits of new services and products through real-world evaluations. We supported Lenus Health's funding application to the Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) to implement its digital solution in Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The project analysed the effectiveness of Lenus Health’s solution in improving the management of patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and in reducing adverse effects, especially emergency admissions. Results showed that: 🔶50% reduction in A&E attendance by COPD patients. 🔶50% reduction in hospital admissions for patients with COPD. 🔶Improved quality of life reported by patients. 🔶Over £1,500 cheaper and more effective, per patient per annum, than the current standard of care You can find out more about the project in our Impact Report: https://ow.ly/CW1y50Ump0Y and in this video 👇 York Health Economics Consortium #COPD #ImprovingPatientOutccomes #Innovation
