I’m feeling lost for words today. Another life lost to unhealthy, inhumane work culture - long hours, crushing workloads, unrealistic deadlines and scant regard for human well-being. #AnnaSebastian was just 26 and by all accounts a bright and promising chartered accountant. Her Mum’s letter to her employer is both humbling and heart-wrenching. Her employer isn’t the only guilty one. May it be yet another call to action for those privileged enough to lead others. Have the courage to truly care for the people who work for you. Use your wisdom and experience to push back against - even say no to - impossible demands. Show those around you there’s a better way. Lead with patience, humility and humanity. People are irreplaceable - human life far more valuable than the economic gains they bring. Isn’t it time to treat them that way? #leadership #mentalhealth #employeematters

Alternative perspective from a non-economist: Societies (as represented by governments, institutions and tax payers) COMPETE to have you build your factory within their communities. The benefits that these factories bring (in terms of wealth creation, job creation, taxes). Protection from marauding bands would seem to be the least one could offer. It does feel a bit Warren’s saying “nice little factory, shame if something were to happen to it.”

#politics #economics #NobelPrize I pay my taxes. Senator Elizabeth Warren’s wages and benefits for her to do her job to provide what public economists call pure public goods. She can buy what I produce as a private person, voluntarily, no compulsion, but she cannot take from me without compensating me and without my consent as government on the pretext that I am using public services. I use the public services I paid for, for which she is accountable to me and all of us as tax payers. US government is doing a lousy job with our money whether Democrat or Republican. The Kennedys are still worth an intergenerational family fortune and literally own parts of the Ivy League and Manhattan, Clintons are worth $200M, Obamas $60M, Warren $10M, and all have tax payer paid benefits and perks the rest of their lives including the George W. Bush Cadillac health care, not Obamacare, in retirement until they pass on. There is no Michelle Obama’s light in your heart and South Carolina Gullah culture of Kumbayah. Barack Obama does not use his own Obamacare, he does not drink his koolaid. We all should? Go figure that light in my heart with The Nobel Prize to boot to Kenya. Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, and Larry Ellison these people created are worth between them $1 trillion. What the heck are these people talking about? I may be sitting on the future of humanity #OurCommonFuture, the size of the entire Chinese economy, but I am only worth $100,000. We all work for a living as she and the rest of US government does. Sharing costs y’all money, no matter who you are. All human interactions are transactions. 2024 One World tamirisa.com TAMIRISA

It’s #TestimonialTuesday time with our clients The King's Singers and the success they achieved with Pentlands. The King’s Singers have represented the gold standard in a cappella singing on the world’s greatest stages for over 50 years. We hear from Edward Button about how the Partnership have benefited from working with Pentlands. “Pentlands has really helped us fly! We were looking for a modern approach to accountancy that provided us with clarity and certainty. It was an obvious choice to go with Pentlands as they came highly recommended. Right from the start they lived up to the expectation as Elinor was incredibly supportive, helpful, and pragmatic. Putting it simply, working with Pentlands means we have control. It brings happiness and a sense of calm. I would highly recommend Pentlands as accountants; they are very professional, personable and pragmatic. They are interested in more than just numbers; they are interested in your business, and in you.” To read all about the success of The King’s Singers and how they work with Pentlands please visit https://lnkd.in/gdXFZJc If you are reading this and would like a conversation about how we can help you, then please contact us on 01926 424455. #success #successstory #business #clients #accountants #pentlandsaccountants #accountantsinwarwickshire #testimonial #growth #manage #maximise #happyclients #values

FIGHT HIM MAGNUS! Going soft buddy? Call Rapport’s family to see if you can trick his mom into giving you your knight back. The one that you blundered because even the best are human. Ask for a new notation sheet and rip yours up before the arbiter looks. Because no one would argue you are the lesser player here. Ain’t nobody in Bentonville as good in business as he is in chess. There is a difference between being competitors and being lunatics. Winners versus cowards who lucked into some influence so they refuse to resign even when they screwed it up. “Dayton, there was gray area but now that you refused to go to court where we could further torture you and your family, we let Mike Dennis go and are considering how to proceed”. That’s not democracy, freedom of speech or American. But fine! There is no gray area but I’m just a person with a “grievance” right? Here’s the middle ground: - DELETE SECTIONS from your ethics and compliance policies. - CLOSE your health centers. - NEVER promote your mental health resources because my former leadership never informed me they existed. - DO NOT SEND your people officers to well being events. - If it happens again ➡️ FIX IT! Or go be Uber drivers if you don’t the responsibility and Cush life that comes with. Then we’ll call it a draw! Until then, I’m going of the assumption I’ll be winning. Because NO ONE EVER TOLD ME ANYTHING OTHERWISE. During COVID LOCKDOWN! Walmart Corporate: LOSE! https://lnkd.in/gN-maXUT

Winning, notwithstanding the unexpected. Buzz Aldrin came to visit. (Deputy Prime Minister Etienne Schneider is with us in the picture.) Learning from an American legend was awesome. We visited for hours. In describing his trip to the Moon, we talked about dealing with the unexpected. (He had some great stories). So, I told him the advice my father gave me once on a country road as we returned home and came upon a deer frozen in the headlights. "Son, never be the deer. To survive, all that deer has to do is the very first thing he learned to do in life - put one foot in front of the other. Soon, he will be out of harm's way safely on the other side. The key is don't freeze up." Many times, in throughout my career, I have thought - "Don't be the deer!" Most times it came when life threw me an unexpected curveball. Other times, unexpected tragedies came which could have easily derailed my future or career. In the practice of law, there were those unexpected documents, recollections of witnesses for the first time at trial, or rulings from judges that no one saw coming. In business, there were unexpected twists and turns from the macro (the economy) to the micro (the loss of a key employee). Yet, each time, I remembered - "don't be the deer" - all I must do is key going - take one more step and then another and soon I will have moved ever so slightly forward, but enough to live to talk about it another day. Buzz echoed my father's admonition. The inimitable Buzz Aldrin said - "in life, especially when it matters most, it is always just one thing at a time and when that happens that one thing is the only thing that really counts - taking that next step - even if it is just one small step on the Moon with the whole world watching." In the end, it is never about the unexpected; it's inevitable. It is what you do when it happens. Things stop only if you let them - so don't. Finish the drill - it is what winners do - even on the moon.

I got this when I was having a low day during CA studies in 2008. It was a short write up I had submitted for a TOI local supplement. It was all that I needed that day. A powerful reminder- it got me up to bring back the faith in myself. We've all had those days where self-doubt creeps in, making us question our abilities and progress. But, what if I told you that a simple acknowledgment of your achievements can be the game-changer? When we receive recognition on our lowest days, it reinstates our belief in ourselves. It's a powerful reminder that we are capable and strong. And, it's essential to reflect on our accomplishments from time to time, celebrating how far we've come. Remember, your current self is a testament to your hard work and resilience. Be proud of the person you've become, and don't let self-doubt take over. You are: - Stronger than your fears - Wiser than your doubts - Braver than your anxieties Believe in yourself, even when it's hard. Reflect on your achievements, and know that you are capable of achieving anything you set your mind to. #personalgrowth #namitaauditslife

A wonderful recognition is always appreciated, but keep in mind Marcus Aurelius: “One who is all in a flutter over his subsequent fame fails to imagine that all those who remember him will very soon be dead – and he too.” Honors vanish because they point to one’s own soon-to-be-forgotten self. In reality, others are not just the cause of our accomplishment but the emblems for why we live, move, and have our being. Before you forget about me a moment from now, consider who such persons are in your own life. One’s parents. High-school coaches, teachers, or counselors. Men and women who wrote books that changed one’s life. Those who made it possible for one to go to college. Ministers and others who both taught and demonstrated faith. People who convinced us that previously unthought-of things were, in fact, possible. Family members who offer and still offer love and support—again and again. Colleagues who are patient, energetic, and loyal. Even our critics and adversaries who call us to question and to doubt, but ultimately to continue. Even they strengthen us. In the white-collar defense and government-investigations practice, one of the few skills I demonstrably possess is to surround myself with good, thoughtful, smart people at Lightfoot, Franklin & White, including: Brandon Essig (who is also Chambers band 1 for white collar), Jeff Doss, Kaitlyn Revisore (Faucett), Wesley Smithart, Tatum Jackson, Mary Parrish McCracken, and Nicholas Langford. Courtroom magicians like Sam McAllister and data wizards like Jessica Wehby. Those who tend my self-promotion fires like Paula DeReuil McCauley and Lucy Eck. And all my Lightfoot partners but especially my managing partner Melody Eagan. But don’t forget Marcus Aurelius.
