Investment Secured for Green Aviation Fuel Facility in Egypt A transformative investment of USD 530 million is underway with the launch of the Sustainable Aircraft Fuel Production Company (ESAF). This project will establish a cutting-edge facility in Alexandria, producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) with an annual capacity of 120,000 tonnes. ADB and ACWA Power Sign Collaboration Plan                   Yesterday, at COP-29 in  Baku, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a collaboration plan with one of the leading private developers ACWA Power Company.     This partnership marks a significant milestone in our shared commitment to a sustainable future. Together, we will focus on renewable energy, green hydrogen, and water desalination projects across ADB member countries. Our collaboration plan aims to address climate change challenges, build resilience, and promote inclusiveness, with a special emphasis on integrating gender and climate actions.     By working with ACWA Power on aligning environmental and social management systems with international best practices, we hope to pave the way for innovative solutions and sustainable development. Our Engagement with the Tricycle Operators Association Kano State gave us the platform to answer critical questions regarding the Tricycle Conversion from ICE to Electric Systems, equally Highlighting the benefits of the Conversion brings to both Operators and Commuters. Kano’s adoption of Tricycle as local means of transportation makes this conversion strategic, economically and enviromentally beneficial. Atleast 11,798 Tons of Carbon Offset can be achieved from converting 2000 units from the Operational Fleet in the state making the transition to #eMobility a key solution to reducing urban emission and enhancing mobility in the state. This evening, I spoke at the “Unlocking Private Capital for SDG-Aligned Investments in the Global South”, organized by #UNDP’s Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (ICPSD), the Government of Türkiye, and the Government of Azerbaijan. To attract new investment at scale, #SIDS have to start thinking big. We have to embark into the realm of possibilities. And tell ourselves, that yes, we can overcome our challenges. But thinking big alone is not sufficient to unlock private capital. The thinking has to translate into action. And that’s where partnerships become the key. SIDS need partners who can: -             Help in building the State capacity that would allow them to work with the private sector in a mutually beneficial relationship; -             Support in reducing or sharing business risks associated with private investment projects; and -             Help in reducing the cost of borrowing. The #Maldives is small, but it thinks big, and believes in the realm of possibilities, instead of dwelling on its inherent disadvantages caused by geography and scale. It is embarking on an ambitious climate adaptation project: developing an artificial island of Ras-Male’, to provide housing solutions to over 65,000 homes, with the focus on climate-smart development and renewable energy. Another big and ambitious project that President Muizzu has embarked on is on renewable energy. The President announced at #COP28 that the Maldives will develop renewable energy systems to provide 33% of the country’s electrical needs by 2028. And we believe that we can reach the by partnering with the private sector. In fact, today, the Government signed an arrangement with two large foreign investors who would explore the possibilities of installing 150MWp solar power in the country.

In #NorthMacedonia, assisting households to make investments in #green technologies not only supports #climateaction, but also helps them save on #energy costs and improves living standards. United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, UNDP and IOM - UN Migration have recently organized a capacity-building workshop in Skopje on the design of bankable project proposals for energy efficiency and renewable energy by underserved households.
