NY needs a strong, stable, modern MTA. The capital financing plan must be sustainable, fairly apportioned to those who benefit, and ensure New York’s competitiveness — balancing twin facts: NY already has the nation’s highest tax burden and it needs strong transit to thrive. What does the future of the City of Adelaide look like to you? You only have a few days left to comment on the City of Adelaide's financial roadmap for the next decade, the Draft Long-Term Financial Plan (LTFP). The Draft LTFP is based on the Council’s Strategic Plan 2024-2028 and a range of informed assumptions about the future. It helps monitor the City of Adelaide’s future financial sustainability and ability to deliver services while maintaining and upgrading its infrastructure. There has been underinvestment in assets and Council must address a backlog in maintaining the infrastructure that makes our city function. This Council has decided to take a responsible approach rather than kicking it down the road, which is a challenging task—especially so during a cost-of-living crisis. The LTFP will see us take on debt over the coming years to help responsibly deliver a major capital program while minimising the impact on current ratepayers. This is an approach supported by our independent Audit and Risk Committee. The LTFP is a roadmap for the future using the best information we have at this time. Not everyone will agree with all the elements of the plan and that’s why we want our community to have its say here:https://lnkd.in/gjtnBAhG

How do we combine the best of public and private sector capital to fund critical economic infrastructure? Kier Starmer is at Labour party conference giving a clear message that the government wants to partner with the private sector to raise investment. How timely, then, that the latest abrdn #MacroBytes podcast is an interview with Bridget Rosewell, Chair of the M6toll and a non-exec director at the UK Infrastructure Bank, all about combining the public and private sector to fund infrastructure! Stretched public finances mean private capital is critical to fund the infrastructure necessary for future prosperity. Moreover, climate change, technological change, and demographic shifts are altering the sort of infrastructure we need in modern economies. Public sector capital is crucial to raising infrastructure investment because it can often borrow at lower rates and help crowd in the private sector. The private sector is critical because it can bring efficiency, capital discipline, innovation and – counter to some pre-conceptions – a long-term view removed from election cycles. But the private sector wants to see reform of the planning process, consistency of government policy, regulatory certainty, and a strategic vision aligned with long-term economic goals. 🎙 Listen to the pod to hear more -> https://lnkd.in/gE2iwkWQ

The Australian Financial Review - housing enabling infrastructure to be boosted in Treasurer Jim Chalmers #2024-2025FederalBudget. A step toward recognising that $1b in civil infrastructure is required to begin enabling new housing to start to correct the crisis. Requires much larger investment over time to enable 60-80,000 homes more per year than the current build rate.
