#TerminalTriviaTuesday In 2003 the #BuffaloCentralTerminal was spotlighted on the Preservation League of New York State #SeventoSave list. This list calls attention to historic properties that exemplify challenges facing historic places across the state, like insufficient funding and financial incentives, insensitive public policies, general neglect, disinvestment, and in some cases, demolition. The write up read that "'saving' the former station at this stage will mean the stabilization of the structure and finding a suitable adaptive use that not only results in the rehabilitation of the landmark station, but serves as a catalyst for the revitalization of Buffalo’s East Side neighborhood." Our future is in motion. After years of advocacy alongside partners such as the Preservation League, Urban Land Institute, Empire State Development, and more, this living landmark has finally received the infusion of financial support needed to kick start reuse. This amendment allows for higher density developments in certain areas of the city. Collaboration is essential to developing safe and enjoyable urban spaces. The Roxborough Development Corporation was proud to work with the Friends of Gorgas Park, Councilmember Curtis Jones, Jr, and other community partners in making the Gorgas Park Safety Improvement Project a reality. Made possible through grants from Councilmember Curtis Jones, Jr., the Philadelphia Department of Commerce, and the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development (in addition to contributions by the Roxborough Development Corporation and Friends of Gorgas Park), the Improvement Project will make it safer to walk and park along Ridge Avenue while minimizing disruption to residents, pedestrians, and vehicular traffic along one of Philadelphia's bustling commercial corridors.
