Season four of “Commercializing Living Therapies with CCRM” kicked off with Christopher P. Boone, PhD, Oracle, and Kenneth Harris, OmniaBio, discussing how artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics are shaping the biomanufacturing facility of the future. In this clip, Chris explains how AI’s data collection technologies help personalize treatments for patients. “One of the more fascinating things, and this is the world where I live, is just the literal access to all the different types of data that we have about the patient. Whether it be, certainly, the data that we capture in their electronic health record as they’re having these routine encounters with their providers, there’s also genetic/genomic data that exists, this environmental data that we capture, this lifestyle data that we particularly care about. All of these data sources feed into what it would take to make medicine much more personalized and ultimately start to get into what those patient preferences are. As Ken mentioned, with these 70+ therapies that are now on label, patients do, or should, feel a bit more empowered to select therapies where they’re willing to accept certain risks for certain benefits.” Listen wherever you stream podcasts, or at the following link: https://lnkd.in/daTWUkEF #artificialintelligence, #AI, #robotics #regenmed #cellandgenetherapies #podcast

Patient impacting AI is already landing in the NHS (https://lnkd.in/ei68AytQ) which is exciting from a digital transformation and productivity perspective but somewhat terrifying from a legal responsibility one. The onus is currently on the clinician to be vigilant and check that the AI is correct. This makes me feel deeply uncomfortable knowing how busy clinicians are (even if some of their time has been freed up by the AI). The latest episode of the Royal Society of Medicine Digital Health podcast by Prof. Julia Adler-Milstein is a great summary of the problem space and some potential approaches and I recommend a listen. If you don't have time to listen to the podcast, highlights include: 1. Monitor the clinician / AI interaction - if clinicians are never editing the AI output, can you prompt them to be more vigilant and fact / spot check? 2. Can you jar clinicians into being more vigilant by deliberately adding errors and monitoring how often they get picked up on? Again providing an opportunity for feedback or training. 3. Do not just assume all productivity gains can be banked. We need to give clinicians the time to be vigilant. 4. What is the best role that AI can play in supporting clinicians. Although it may result in less sexy productivity savings, keeping the human doing the work but AI becoming the checker may be far lower risk and actually lead to better patient outcomes. 5. There is a need for more science to determine the areas where clinicians are really skilled at making clinical decisions and where they need the most support. 6. What are our performance expectations and risk tolerance for clinical AI? Autonomous vehicles kill less people in road traffic accidents than human drivers but we hold them to higher account. What are we willing to accept in healthcare and will this change once the first lawsuit inevitably arrives? As always, starting with the problem and the end users gives us the best chance to identify the greatest opportunity for AI to help (not hinder or worse still). #AI #Healthcare #NHS #ClinicalAI #healthcareAI #RSM #royalsocietymedicine #UCLA #humanmachineinteraction #clinicianvigilance #AIfactcheck https://lnkd.in/eua4ScAE

Excited to share our latest breakthrough in prototype testing, just before customer deployment! With the integration of our new autofocus camera into our retrofit DigiFrame, we are setting a new standard for 24/7 rodent observation—completely free of human intervention. This advancement makes it easier than ever to detect and live view rodent activity 24/7, and is a crucial element of our solution to train AI with standardized data. We align with Recursion's vision of harnessing AI for the reliable translation of preclinical data to clinical outcomes. https://lnkd.in/eUAzdnYf A key aspect of this is minimizing human bias, which our solution achieves by enabling continuous observation of rodents during preclinical studies. The next weeks will bring further updates and installations, stay tuned. #DHCM #DHC #Innovation #AnimalResearch #PreclinicalData #Automation #AI #iMouse
