Scotland’s green infrastructure future was the mighty theme for our #icaewScotland supper roundtable last week, bringing together representatives from the renewables sector alongside infrastructure investment banks, investors, and legal to share insights, challenges, and strategies to unlock the capital necessary for green investment.
Three quick takeaways from some of our conversations:
▶ Grid reinforcement, supply chain build-out, and a clear policy roadmap are critical to closing Scotland’s green infrastructure gap and achieving decarbonisation targets.
▶ The build out of technologies such as floating offshore wind, tidal turbines, and geothermal power could reduce reliance on fossil-fuel generation due to complementary generation profiles vis-à-vis solar and onshore wind.
▶ Government-backed capital providers such as the National Wealth Fund and the Scottish National Investment Bank are key to catalysing scale deployment of innovative technologies.
Thank you to all who joined the discussion and participated in the roundtable, to David Bond for hosting, Riaz Karim for keeping us on track and prompting questions throughout the evening, and to David Petrie and colleagues in ICAEW’s Corporate Finance Faculty for their input to the success of the evening.
