Some great insight from our Director of Linear Assets and New Energies, Tim Stiven, as he reflects on the importance of building partnerships to unlock the full potential of floating offshore wind in the Celtic Sea. From creating new jobs and upskilling local communities, to fostering new business opportunities and increasing the understanding of the marine environment through surveys, it’s these collaborative partnerships that will ensure the lasting success of floating offshore wind.
Tim Stiven, The Crown Estate's Director of Linear Assets and New Energies, reflects on the need for partnerships across sectors and regions. And looks to the future with reference to TCE's recent investment through the Supply Chain Accelerator Fund. #FloatingOffshoreWind #CelticSea Our latest guest blog following Tim's presentation at the Celtic Sea FLOW 2024 Summit.

A great way to end the week in energy with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero Clean Power Action Plan published today. Well done to Chris Stark and the team for their work to turbo-charge the new age of electricity and all the benefits that will bring for jobs, growth, security, and the environment. Systems level reform that enables a clear route to Clean Power by 2030 and beyond is exactly what's needed if we are to reach the nations collective ambitions for an energy secure transition. Our Marine Delivery Routemap is a key component to this delivery as we manage the demand on the seabed, providing visibility to the many sectors who use the seas, whilst recovering and enhancing our precious natural ecosystem. I look forward to working with key partners to deliver the Clean Power 2030 mission together. #energy #cleanpower #netzero
📣 Published today, our Clean Power Action Plan outlines how we're going to reach clean power by 2030. It's the most ambitious reform to our energy system in a generation and represents a new era of electricity planning, building and generation. Part of the Prime Minister’s Plan for Change, it focuses on getting more clean power into, and around our energy system. And outlines how we’re going to reform and speed up the way decisions are made about building and connecting our renewable energy projects to the grid. It will get us off the roller coaster of international fossil fuel markets - protecting consumers and businesses. It also sets out how we will deliver the generation and infrastructure to reach our goal - giving investors the confidence to invest, boosting supply chains and supporting new jobs. ❔ Did you know that Regent Street was the first street in central London to be adorned with Christmas lights back in 1954? We’ve been bringing festive cheer to visitors for 70 years now and have marked this special anniversary with an installation in St James’s Market showing the lights through the decades. This year, our iconic ‘Spirits’, inspired by the 1954 design, are back on display. Created in partnership with James Glancy Design Ltd, the hand-crafted angels are powered by LEDs and switched on in the early evening using a timer for a more sustainable display. You still have plenty of time to enjoy ‘The Spirit of Christmas’ as the displays will be up until 5th January so come and enjoy the festivities 🎄

As demands on our marine space grow, safeguarding the health and resilience of our ecosystems has never been more important. We’re proud to support the MaRePo+ project through our Offshore Wind Evidence and Change programme. The project advances understanding of where England’s most threatened marine habitats, like kelp and native oyster beds, can be restored. These efforts complement our broader work through the Whole of Seabed Programme which brings together the best available evidence across all marine and coastal activities, enabling us to identify prime areas of opportunity to deliver for biodiversity and ecosystem resilience. Collaboration is key to unlocking these opportunities, and we’re committed to working with partners across government, industry, and NGOs to deliver a net zero and nature-positive future.
We’re continuing our work to understand where some of England’s most threatened marine habitats can be restored! 🌊 Through our Marine Restoration Potential (MaRePo+) partnership project, we’ve published updated maps showing if and where there is potential to restore declining marine habitats and also benefit the threatened species they support. The updates include refined restoration potential models and adding in constraints mapping to show where restoration would not be possible. Habitats include kelp beds, native oyster beds, horse mussel beds and sea pen and burrowing mega-fauna communities. Co-funded by DEFRA, Natural England and The Crown Estate Offshore Wind and Evidence and Change (OWEC) Programme, this project will boost our understanding of these important habitats and give us evidence to support the government’s wider work on Marine Spatial Prioritisation and Offshore Wind Enabling Actions (OWEAP). Thanks to our partners Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, The Crown Estate, Environment Agency, JNCC and Cefas Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/dTjC_wZF

💡 Increasing the capacity and capability of our domestic offshore wind supply chain will be crucial in delivering the UK’s #CleanEnergy transition. Today, we’re announcing that 13 successful organisations are set to share nearly £5m in #funding from The Crown Estate through the initial round of our Supply Chain Accelerator, which launched in May. This funding will help kick-start important projects in the #OffshoreWind #SupplyChain, ranging from those enabling floating wind platform and anchoring and mooring systems, to those supporting the #skills transition. Our match funding will contribute to a combined development #investment of over £9m which, if the opportunities successfully conclude their respective development stages, could lead to more than £400m of capital investment.
