New Orleans has installed a historic marker under the Claiborne overpass to honor a once-thriving Black business district displaced by Interstate 10 construction. From the 1830s to the 1970s, Claiborne Avenue was a vibrant hub of Black-owned businesses, fostering community and culture until its destruction for highway development. The marker, unveiled with a celebratory second line, serves as a tribute to the area’s entrepreneurial legacy and a reminder of its resilience. https://lnkd.in/gdwv-TfB

Not for or against this idea. Just thinking it through from a #marketdemand perspective. Is #induceddemand the driving theory behind this proposal? If #visitor-driven, how will location relate to where most downtown #hotel rooms are located (ie. towards #UnionSquare)? We’re working on #downtown #masterplans across the #unitedstates right now, so interested to see how this evolves and if it’s a model for other cities. #retailresilience #communitydesign #economicdevelopment #downtownrecovery #sanfrancisco #retail #foodandbeverage
