Congratulations to MetroPlan Orlando for the Orlando Metro Section - APA Florida 2024 planning projectof the year award for Vision Zero Central Florida! The award was accepted during the OMS 2024 Holiday Party and Awards Celebration on Thursday, December 5, 2024. MetroPlan Orlando lead a coordinated planning effort in partnership with local agencies to develop a Vision Zero Safety Action Plan for Central Florida, as well as additional action plans tailored for each county and city in the region that identified opportunities to make Central Florida roads safer – this planning effort was completed under the Vision Zero Central Florida banner. Vision Zero Central Florida (VZCFL) is a coordinated effort led by MetroPlan Orlando, partnering with local jurisdictions, to provide comprehensive Safety Action Plans for our three-county region (Osceola, Orange and Seminole Counties), as well as for each county and city. These plans lay out regional and local efforts to change road designs, educate and engage people, and work with law enforcement to save lives. Our regional partnership approach, as far as we know, is unique among Vision Zero safety initiatives nationwide. This work was made possible by a $3.79 million Safe Streets and Roads for All federal grant awarded to MetroPlan Orlando in 2023. Vision Zero seeks to build layers of protection into the transportation system through a proactive method called the safe system approach, which includes working on safer roads, safer vehicles, safer speeds, addressing needs of all travelers, and strengthening post-crash care. The Safety Action plans that have been developed aim to save lives by proposing changes in roadway designs, engaging and educating the community, and working with law enforcement. https://lnkd.in/eRv-5v4B

Congratulations to the UCF School of Public Administration for the Orlando Metro Section - APA Florida 2024 student project of the year! Haines City CRA Master Plan Update and Research Report Prepared by the UCF School of Public Administration Master of Science in Urban and Regional Planning 2023-2024 Planning Studio This project represents a comprehensive effort to guide the sustainable and equitable development of the Haines City CRA. The scope of work focused on reviewing existing plans, conducting demographic and economic analyses, assessing land uses and infrastructure capacity, engaging the community, and developing actionable strategies for future growth. Each of these elements were integrated into a cohesive vision for the CRA, which includes the Historic Downtown, Northeast, and Eastside neighborhoods. The plan and research report provides a roadmap for addressing needs and supporting the aspirations of residents and other stakeholders. It lays the foundation for informed decision-making and policy adjustments and aims to foster a more responsive and adaptive approach to city planning that not only respects the historical and cultural significance of these neighborhoods but also propels them toward a future characterized by sustainable growth, enhanced livability, and community resilience. The award was accepted, during the OMS holiday party on December 5, by professor Dr. Christopher Hawkins and a student of the program who worked on the project.
